I've been doing research on this and am still a bit confused because I get different answers from the techs at DTV.

I have 7 HD DVR's. I want to buy an SWM16, like this one here:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/DIRECTV-SWM16-SWM-16-Multiswitch-Power-Inserter-With-2-8-Way-Splitters-/281134982207

I would like to run only one wire to each DVR. One person I spoke to said I needed splitters and one said I didn't. I will be needing 14 tuners working from the SWM. Do I need splitters for that?

The way I was told to install was to run a cable from the SWM switch to the Power Inserter, plugged into the SWM port on the PI.
Then I was confused. I believe she said to run something from the port that comes into my house but my current multiswitch is in the house and I don't have a port installed in the wall that runs outside to the dish.

If someone could direct me to an installation diagram that you know of, that would tell me how to plug it properly to get it to work.
I looked at the one in here but I didn't quite get it.

What plugs from where to where from where?

    Thanks for any help.

Also if you know of someplace else to buy the parts I need for less, please let me know.

The most efficient setup would be two "green label" four-way splitters. One for the SWM1 output and the other for the SWM2 output.

If you had plans to branch closer to the HD DVRs, things get more complicated fast.

If I may ask, why use splitters? Is it necessary? So what you're saying is, use the 2 4 way splitters connected to the 2 SWM outputs and then connect
your one wire run to each DVR to each of the splitter outputs?

Thanks for the link. I really only found info for Deca on that....the SWM links didn't take me anywhere. Or is it that DECA setup is identical?

    That's the most efficient way.

You can't daisy chain the receivers so you need some way of getting from one SWiM output to four DVRs and that way is a green label splitter.

SWiM and DECA share the same coax topology.

This diagram is essentially the setup that you need (assuming that you want to be connected to the Internet). If you don't care about an Internet connection, then you don't need CCK (the component connected "to router")

Ok thanks so much. I think I am getting a clearer picture.

Can you look at the links and see if these are what I need?

Thanks. This diagram was something I have been looking for. I'd seen a few before but nothing that cleared it up as much as this. I am suddenly thinking I am getting the hang of this.

If you buy the SWM 16 from Amazon, this same company selling it has the splitter for less than on Ebay.
