I don't want people to know what I am thinking unless I tell them (through the filter of words).

How many relationships would end if what you were thinking was instantly known?

See "The Invention of Lying" ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1058017/) for a world where everyone tells the truth (no fiction) and are so accustomed to the honesty that it is not shocking. In our world we are so accustomed to the lie ("how are you doing", "fine how are you", "fine" - "no that dress doesn't make you look fat" - "yes boss, your proposal is good") that the full truth would be a shock.

(The movie took it beyond "no lying" to the level of "no omission" ... which would be what it would be like if thoughts were transmitted without a filter.)

One could become a "Person of Interest" ... which as a TV show is coming to an end.

There was also an SNL skit many years ago where you could hear what people were thinking. A guy brought a girl back to his apartment and each of them said one thing while thinking another... then his roommate (guest Joe Montana) came in and he would say something and then think exactly the same thing as he had just said.

When that show started it seemed like a fantasy. Now, maybe not so much.
