August 1st AccuWeather goes live replacing WeatherNation on ch. 361. Good or Bad?
"Who cares" should be a choice, also...
I use AccuWeather on my phone, works great! The channel should be good...WN on 361 is pretty dull...wait and see.
I too vote for "who cares?" Loads of choices to get weather information.
WeatherNation served a good purpose back in the days when The Weather Channel was broadcasting programing instead of weather information.
I have used AccuWeather for years on my PC and tablets. I know nothing about Weathernation. I very seldom what the weather stations on Directv. If I want up to date now weather I check with a local station.
When i have weather happing at my house directv is dead till the strom passes.
No weather channel is needed if you have sight and a window to look out of.
Will we get local weather? Weathernation does not.
Yeah it does, both via the red button popup and during the Local Weather Now segments.
Will it be in HD like The Weather Channel?
I use my local channels for weather.
weather nation has filled the void left by the weather channels idiot programing... If I want to see weather at 1am, weather nation is there. the weather channel is absent. plus we don't get any global warming BS.
I agree with Rich in that any live updates on the Weather Channel overnight on a normal night are scarce. Severe weather, liquid or frozen, is obviously a different story. I think many of us would prefer TWC would return to what it was in the 90s and early 2000s ... weather 24 hours a day with very little of the reality programming. Can't see that happening, though.
As for Weather Nation, I just never took it seriously. It's so low-budget next to TWC.
This is the main reason I quit watching TWC. I started depending on my local stations or apps on my phone/tablet.
Better to have weather reporting by low budget WeatherNation than to have reality programming by high budget Weather Channel.
I'll admit I kinda like the reality programming they have. I love Highway Through Hell, SOS, etc. I didn't care for WN but I do like AccuWeather so I think it's a good change.
Is it the same one like on fios?
IMHO, WN suffered from its low budget nature. One item of note was that it just under-crawled NWS issued alerts, which are generally by county. In bad weather, the long lists took so long to roll through, effective communication was not possible. It needed a geography nerd with the ability to edit it down to things like "northeastern Montana", "the part of Pennsylvania west of I-81" or "the Cincinnati metro area".
It also was afflicted with too many people who could not pronounce geographical names, especially the afformentioned counties (which are often Spanish, French, or "Indian" tounge twisters.)
Plus there On Camera personal are a Merry Go Round.
According to the listings on the app, the switch might be happening tonight at midnight ET.
EDIT: It's now live
