    Quick question,

Does anyone know if it's possible to activate the USB device manangement option on a DVR 625 like you can on the new VIP 722? I would like to move some programs off of the 625 to an external hard drive. Is there a software download from DISH that will enable this feature? The tech I spoke to on the phone didn't seem to know. Thanks

The use of an external hard drive for the 625 is not available at this time.

Isn't the 625 USB 1.1 anyway? Very slow transfers, like 60 minutes for a 1 hour SD program.

on the tech forum tonight they said their are no plans to activate the UBS ports on any of the older DVR's. the reasons given was that the slower 1.1 would not allow for playback directly from the hard drive and also that they want you to upgrade. I also beleive that they said the 625 was 1.1

Yes, 625 and 522 have SAME 'guts' but different hard drives.

Damn. I wish I would have read this BEFORE I went out and bought this 500gb external hard drive. :-( I guess I need to update this box now to HDTV. <sigh>

So what is the purpose of the USB if it's not activated for anything?

The same thing as the 'high speed data port' on my old model 4000

The USB can be used for PocketDISH. It has some use.

I would not rule out a USB drive ever, but I would not expect one either.
