I guess Dish & the cable companies have their paid reps out spreading FUD trying to chase people away from Directv with false rumors.

Please don't blame DISH for lies on the Internet. We don't need any more lies on the Internet for people to spread.

All the contract obligations AT&T|DIRECTV will pass to new DIRECTV and will expire on the same dates as they would if AT&T was not transferring their services to new DIRECTV.
Speak the truth, not the FUD.

The sale of DIRECTV by AT&T does not include ownership and control of the AT&T owned sports networks. Those content generators will remain under direct control of AT&T. DIRECTV's contracts to carry the AT&T owned sports nets will continue (as will other carriage contracts). Apparently those people on youtube are having trouble reading. :)

There's an awful lot of incorrectly digested reading flying about. Of course anyone using Reddit, Twitter or YouTube mouthpieces as news sources deserves whatever heartburn/heartbreak they get.

I've always maintained that absent authoritative news, the community will develop its own news and it will be riddled with factual errors. See more at Craig Moffett and/or Swanni.

At least this time there is a grain of truth feeding the misunderstanding (RSNs not included in the sale). Ownership of RSNs not included, carriage of RSNs is included in the deal.

DIRECTV will have control over DIRECTV. AT&T will have an ownership stake and two out of five members on the controlling board. Two other members will be appointed by the Investors and the fifth member will be the DIRECTV CEO (who is currently the CEO of the Video Unit that is becoming "DIRECTV"). Branding for all services will change to DIRECTV and the globe logo will no longer be used.

All this and more can be found in the SEC filing as discussed in the appropriate thread.

If I read this correctly, ATT TV streaming customers will have access to Sunday Ticket this year:
"When the transaction closes, all existing content deals, including NFL SUNDAY TICKET on DIRECTV, will be a part of New DIRECTV. Customers will continue to have access to premium content via DIRECTV and AT&T TV and will receive the same services, channel lineups and customer care experience. "

I like the DirecTV logo better than the Deathstar logo anyways, as DirecTV is on all of my equipment.

Not quite. Basically Sunday Ticket stays with directv but directv and att tv will have access to all content they do now. Att tv does not have access to Sunday ticket

Poorly worded ... read as "the same services, channel lineups and customer care experience as they currently have." This deal does not change the DIRECTV contract with the NFL.

I will say that DTV has several programing options for you.
List of DirecTV channels – TVCL – TV Channel Lists
    DIRECTV-ChannelPackageLineUp.pdf (att.com)
Here are some packages for first time customers:
    TV (directv.com)

I have DTV with some mini ginies[Wireles] for a year + and been superb. No issues and just negotiated new lower price with same Ultimate package and with internet.

Before that, we had ATT U-Verse and b/4 that Directv. NO issues since fall 1994. New installed equipment along the way with no issues.

i think directv will still have the stuggles that it's always had with more and more people leaving for streaming..
before i decide to go back.
i would hope they will change a few things customer service being the biggest
maybe now boxes with voice remotes and a better DVR;). the genie is awsome but it's dated

ROOT is the only RSN that DIRECTV had a financial interest in AFAIK and that was transferred to AT&T Sports Network as part of the DIRECTV acquisition.

Content ownership and DIRECTV were always kind of odd bedfellows anyway as other than NFLST, DIRECTV didn't take much advantage of the assets they had financial involvement in. In my market, ROOT was the also-ran of the three RSNs (the only RSN that DIRECTV carries) and certainly nothing to brag about compared to NBCSN and Pac12. The Game Show Network was another property that DIRECTV seemed to have a hate-hate relationship with until AT&T sold their share to Sony in late 2019.
