dang, that is a tough decision .........hehehe
My friends and family have no idea that I even do CE's. THe last thing we do when they come over is sit there and watch TV, unless its Sunday ticket, and you really don't see much of a CE release just watching one game.
I, too, paid $299 for my HR20 and have always liked to test out stuff. That said, the hardest thing for me to do is to tell one of my friends who has D* all the cool stuff that's coming. I just don't do that.
In fact, my business partner suddenly called me one day to ask what On Demand was that showed up on his HR20. I explained it to him, and now I have to go out and buy a game adaptor and hook him up to his wireless network.
But I tend to keep my mouth shut about those things, and keep it all here, in the CE Forums.
Ah, so you're in the closet
My friends and family know I am unbiased.
Even though I am a big fan of DirecTV for my own uses and Sony electronics, I often recommend other sources and brands to friends. So they know I can be a fan and be fair at the same time.
Even though I *hate* Comcast, I just recommended a friend go with them because it was her best bet for what she wants. She doesn't need the bigness or complexity of DirecTV. And I just picked out a Samsung LCD TV for another friend even though I probably would have bought the Sony.
I do tell them how much fun it is to do the CEs and how happy I was with the SWM I got because it solved my particular issues. Most of them understand as we work with beta code and work closely with software vendors at work.
as one 100% disable Vet to another would like to say, THANK YOU for your service.
thank you BOTH for your service!
i know i can't speak for SAIBO, but you don't know how many few times that i heard that. so i thank you as well for the acknowledgment.
I also thank you both for your service. It saddens me to read things like your statement about how few thanks you get...
sad but true.....although I dont usually mention it...really dont know why I did today.......Thank You as well gulfwarvet ....!pride
Same here. Heck, I just told my wife last week about the CE program (she doesn't use the HR20 in the theater). I don't intentionally hide it from anyone, it just never comes up.
I do get phone calls from relatives about D* though (what HD channels are there now, what's this change, etc.), but I get calls every week from various relatives regarding all kinds of electronics (what's the best 42" LCD, whats the best universal remote, etc.) because every friend and family member knows I spend a lot of time online at various A/V forums, as well as deal forums (I'm the go to guy on deals and information regarding electronics).
So, while I haven't received my HR21 yet, when I do, I don't think any of my friends or family will even know (and none of them would know the difference by sight).
Well in that case, thank you both.
Nice to see other disable Vets in here as well i have become the go to guy down at my local Elks since two strokes and the Dr had me retire . Spend a lot of time reading what i can trying to get a better Handel on whats out there this is my first field test of any type so am looking forward to it.
Wayne, when did you retire? I retired in August of 2001 (USAF), right before 9/11. I worked at Fort Meade in the HQ building. I had serious seperation anxiety...
BTW, thanks for serving as well!
Retired from the Navy in Jan of 1992 after 23 years. Don't miss it at all now i did the first year or two not getting out to sea those were some good times but wife and kids come first.
I am sought out by some friends and relatives from time to time since they know I am emersed in my lust for this stuff....but most just know I'm nuts period.
I dind't know lemars ate nuts. Seriously, thanks for bringing this thread back to what it is about.
I get mainly my family asking for help etcetera, but I never try to impose a particular way to go, I present facts and allow them to make an informed decision. My extended family has Dish and Cable, no DirecTV. Perhaps I need to put more influence on DirecTV?
Know what you mean all six of my brothers and sisters have Dish in Dallas.
all my friends and family come to me for advice on what to by since I am a huge gadget freak.....none know that I am a CE tester
But I bet that they know you like coffee, eh?
