I haven't seen the question phrased exactly like this previously or through any searches, but:

Is overall operation of any DVR made after the HR20-700 slower (sometimes much slower) than the HR20-700?

I added a new HR21-100 to my account last summer, and it was gawd awful slow compared to the HR20-700 I have, especially with more recent software upgrades. I got DIRECTV to replace the HR21-100 and got a refurb HR21-200. While it's quite a bit better than the HR21-100, it's still significantly slower than my original HR20-700.

BTW, the original on line order for the replacement DVR said "No commitment", so I was surprised to find out it's standard policy to extend the commitment another 24 months when a receiver is replaced. The on line order has been changed to now show "Commitment".

    Thanks.

I can't speak to your commitment issues, but I can confirm your experiences with unit speed, at least generally.

I have four R/HR2x units in the house. The fastest in terms of GUI responsiveness is clearly my 2-1/2 year old HR20-700. My R22-200 is also blazing fast, which is interesting because it's essentially just an HR21-200 with HD capabilities disabled by firmware. My HR21-700 and HR22-100 are both markedly slower, though the 21 is faster than the 22.

There's no reason from a hardware perspective that the different models would operate at different speeds, but clearly they do. It's not 100% consistent though... my HR21-200 is the fastest of all of them. I do know they're working very hard on that right now.

"I wish" my HR21-200 was as fast [responsive] as my HR20. :)

I'm all HR21-100 here now, but did have HR20-100 for a bit. the HR20-100 were faster than the HR21's especially with the AM21 OTA module added.
unplug the AM21 and the HR20 was still slightly faster, plug AM21 back in and huge difference.

Added a poll, FWIW. Multiple choices allowed.

I find they each have their moments, some faster at times, some slower at times, but nothing so slow that I really take notice.

A more telling poll would be to compare the DirecTV lineup pf DVR's with the competition's.
Since I switched from Dish, all of my DirecTV stuff seems glacial.
