    Hollidaysbur...
I keep having lip sync issuues on WTAJ. It has been happening quite frequently. Most of the time I can rewind and then forward and it seems to clear up or not be that bad, but during the local news this am, I could not correct it.
Is this just my setup or is anyone elso having this problem??

I'm still having that video stuttering problem on 10's HD signal, too. I sent an email to General Manager Phil Dubrow (I couldn't find an email address for the chief engineer) notifying him of the problem, although I'm sure he already knows about it.

Got a reply from Phil Dubrow at WTAJ concerning the stuttering video on the DirecTV HD signal:

"DirecTV is having some difficulty in receiving our signal. We are not having any transmission problems, but have been working with them over the last week to help out."

That's pretty much it. Doesn't really tell ya all that much.

I heard a local commercial on the radio over the weekend...directv boasting superiority over d-network for our area saying they now offer local channels in hd. It actually states abc, nbc, cbs and fox for altoona-johnstown. With statements like this we must be getting them soon one would think.

That is certainly promising. The last time anyone heard a date, it was October 8th, so hopefully we'll be happy on Wednesday morning.

It probably is only a matter of days for 23 and 8. They have to finalize the negotiations before they flip the proverbial switch, from what I've heard.

I think 8 and 23 already have the technology in place. You can tell because when you are watching the new HD channel for 8, at the point when they go into network from a locak break you can sometimes see the video or 'jump' a little, with a slight delay in audio and video. Like it repeats a second. This is the board operator switching from their SD switcher feed to the network HD feed. Their switcher is not HD capable, I think. So we are actually seeing the HD feed, just down-rezzed because the agreements are not in place yet.

Does this make any sense to anyone? :)

Well, no go this morning but I just got an e-mail from Jill Ream at WATM/WWCP and she had this to say....

Looks like we're good to go next week!

Oh well, at least next week then. Also CBS (10) has been much better for me too, no picture/sound problems lately.

From what I can tell, the CW 14 out of Pittsburgh that we get here in Johnstown Altoona market is still coming off the 72.5 satellite. Is that true?

If so, will that continue to be the case going forward? I would like to get rid of my small dish when the WATM and WWCP are switched over to HD feeds, but there are a few shows on that channel that my household watches.

Would there be any chance of us getting the Pittsburgh HD feed for CW 14? Is there a HD feed for Pittsburgh CW 14?

It does not come off of 72.5. I do not have a 72.5 dish installed and I receive it. You should be able to take down your 72.5 dish now if you have all MPEG4 receivers. They simulcast all of the SD channels in MPEG4 now.

DirecTV doesn't even offer CW 14 in HD for people in Pittsburgh. This may be because it is not broadcast OTA in HD (only via fiber to cable companies). DirecTV picks up many of its signals via OTA to redistribute. Once CW 14 switches to digital-only broadcasting for February, I have read that they will begin broadcasting OTA in HD. At this point, who knows if DirecTV will pick it up in HD for Pittsburgh, let alone for Johnstown-Altoona.

Unless my eyes deceive me, it looks like DirecTV turned up WATM and WWCP in HD today.

    <edit>

    Nevermind..

88 is different than 8.. :) Sorry for the false alarm.

But boy, it sure looked like HD when I double checked.

Does anyone know whether WPSU will be joining the HD local lineup on DirecTV at all?

No one knows. Maybe when the PBS blanket agreement starts being executed (which *should* be before the end of the year).

    Jackpot!

I can confirm that ABC is in HD (via watching Good Morning America). FOX is not broadcasting anything in HD at the moment but also appears to be outputting an HD resolution to my TV.

The guide still doesn't reflect them as HD channels but hopefully that will be fixed as the day goes on.

I emailed Gregory Petersen, Director of Radio, TV Programming, and Marketing at WPSU and asked when channel 3 will be on DirecTV in HD. His reply:

"Yes, DirecTV will carry our WPSU HD channel, beginning probably about the 1st of the year."
