My AM-21 is failing for the second time within a year. First one just died about after 8 months (no signal on any channels) Second one worked great for about 3 months, now it only gets 25% signal strength on just one of my local off air channels. Any one else have Issues with AM-21 tuners just randomly failing?

I'm still using the one that I got back in 2008 and the newer one from 2010, both work great. Maybe check coax connection at the AM21 and make sure it's good.

Both of mine that are several years old are rock solid...never any issues whatsoever.

No issues here with 4-AM21's. If you are having that many issues, I suspect an antenna system problem or just unlucky with nearby lightning hits.

Could also be heat issues. Do you have your AM21s on top of your HR2x?

I guess its possible the heat could of killed it. Its under my HR23. Or it could of been lightning.. My HR20-700 has never problems getting off air signal, so I know its not my antenna.

I've tried hooking it to my H23 in the other room and still no signal. its dead.

Amazon has them for $45. Guess I'll try another.

Heat is certainly a possibility, I keep mine under the HR34 but use spacers to allow for extra air circulation because it's enclosed in a cabinet.

I noticed you are in Texas, but not where. Here, near DFW, I had a neighbor lose 3/4 of his electronics during a lightning storm. Guess what happened. Yep, lightning through the antenna.

Point is - make sure that puppy is PROPERLY grounded.

I have had two AM21s since their introduction. No problems here. I have everything connected to UPS systems. The antenna leads are connected to the UPS and grounded. But I think the real protection is the antenna is in the attic.

Will an AM-21 work on an HR20 with a bad tuner?

Nope, you'll need to get it replaced.

Have you checked your antenna by going directly to the TV? It is possible that you may need to realign your antenna. A good wind or hail storm can knock an antenna off kilter.

Verify your address with AntennaWeb in order to ensure your antenna is pointing correctly. There is a possibility stations have moved their transmitters to a different antenna farm and you are no longer facing the correct way.

couple of other thoughts, Are you using a pre-amp or powered distribution system? If so, check that they are operating.
Check the cabling and connectors for any kind of damage.

I just had my 3rd one fail, all on the same receiver over a period of 2.5 years. And they have been located in two different stands so wouldn't think heat is the issue. It's sitting on top of the receiver. Connected to an indoor antenna and on a surge protector with the rest of my surround system and tv. This latest one is only about 6 months old. Tired of buying them but really like all the extra channels I get ota.
