LSS my HR44/700 developed an occasional lag and some freezing. The lags got longer and worse over time. After a truck roll and some debugging we unplugged the USB of the AM21 and the HR44 started working fine again.

Turns out all the techs at DTV and with the truck tech company don’t even know what an AM21 is. More research (here at DBStalk) shows they’re making a replacement to the Am21. I just wanted anyone researching a slow HR to see this post... as the possible culprit.

I also noticed that the power indicator in my HR44 was blinking about every 15s with the AM21 connected. It was causing the HR44 to be less responsive.
Disconnecting the AM21 stopped this situation.

I had to disconnect my AM21 because it was causing freezing's. After replacing 4 or 5 HR44s and still not solving the problem, tech support and I decided it was a conflict between the two. They said they were aware this was a problem. In the two years since I've had no freezing.

I don't know which HR44 you have, but the one here (HR44-500) has a second port above the card slot in front (behind the "door")

I’ll be darned my HR44/700 does have a USB port behind the front door. Maybe when I’m in a testing mood I’ll try the AM21 in there. In the meantime I’ve completely removed the device. I’d love to hear if others have had luck with that, now that the am21 is considered unsupported.

I have an AM21 on an HR44 with zero issues.
You may not be aware but there is a OTA TV channel swap or move in progress. All over the USA, channels are moving, forcing people to rescan. One of mine moved last week and other in 2 weeks.

Your AM21 may be trying to tune a channel with out a signal any longer.
You may want to try, resetting all OTA channels, and rescanning all the channels again. All OTA SeriesLinks will stay put, but will take up to 24 hours to repopulate.

If nothing else fails, before leaving it unplugged permanently, give it a try.

No issues with my HR44/700 & AM21. I last week I had to do a channel scan which resolved the ability to receive a couple local OTA channels.

A few members stated that before you, so what would you offer to troubleshoot the issue and any fix for the problem ?

I would also unplug the power to the AM21 for 10 seconds, and plug back in. Once in a while that needs a reset also.

I just had to do that on one of mine last week when I got the 'Tuner 2 has been removed' when seeking an off-air channel.

Thanks for all the great ideas. I hope this thread might help any with am21 troubles like I had. I ultimately removed the am21 fro my setup. I have an HD Homerun to replace it, and now I get a lot more OTA options.
