    Bainbridge...
I have my OTA antenna running directly to my HR20 and will have to reroute the cable to use a splitter (I already have two lines running to the bedroom where my HR21 is located and won't need to diplex, since I am using a SWM5). I don't intend to do this until it is a bit warmer, so will be using a Philips MANT940 which I plan to mount on the shelf in my closet. The Seattle PBS, CW and MYN stations (10 miles away) come in quite well and I expect that to work without any problems. I doubt that the weather subchannel on the NBC affiliate nor an independent at the same location will do as well, but maybe it will work.

You know, if you hook up the AM21 the RIGHT way .. pulling the power cord on the AM21 (either one) will power down the HR21 .. Now if you get an EXTRA power cord and hook it up in a non-recommended way ...

USB and OTA .. well, that will hopefully be graceful .. at least it should be

Is the AM21 single or dual tuner?

Do we know yet if the AM21 will scan for active channels or only pick the ones as told to by the HR21?

It's dual tuner, and its reported not to scan for channels.

I can't wait to see what this unique/custom power solution looks like, because right now I can't imagine how unplugging the power from the AM21 shuts down the HR21!

This makes me think of another issue: is the power drain by the AM21 negligible? I have the HR21 on a UPS, with nothing else plugged in, and can get well over an hour out of it if the power goes out. Looks like the AM21 will now be on that same UPS ...

P.S. I'm not as brave as some of you othes - I'll be using the power cable that comes with the AM21!! :p

The probably have a cord where the portion that plugs into the back of the unit has an auxillay plug that you connect the power cord of the HR21 into.

That's what I thought of, where there's a "pigtail" plug that replaces the power cord of the HR21, and a 'danglie' (a Drew2k technical term) from the back of the HR21 goes into the AM21. But Doug said that disconnecting the power cord from the AM21 cuts the power to the HR21 as well, and I just can't fathom how that could happen ...

    Hopefully I won't much longer to wonder ... :)

That's what it looks like to me, too. Like my old stereo receiver, had 2 or 3 aux outlets to plug the turntable and cassette deck into. Most were switched, to power up and off with the reciever.

This couldn't come at a better time, as I'm having all sorts of stutters, freezes and video dropouts on my HR21's sat locals tonight. So far, its happened on every channel I've watched today, local news (ABC affilliate), and right now on CBS network (NCIS).
Where is that little box????? :)

I would think the other alternative is to have an outlet on the back of the AM21, similar to the powered outlets on some receivers.

Well, you know if some of the guys at CES (you know who you are) had been willing to climb around the booth and take more detailed pictures and play with the stuff risking banishment from the convention center, we may very well have answers to some of these questions.:D ;)

On a different note, how many of you, and please be honest, have already checked their HR21 for a new software version?

I have: but just once: so far.

Wow. Did you not see my post? I was looking at the 2nd page of the PDf from CES as I wrote it...

edit: The more I look at that pic, it looks more like a square plug than a 2 or 3 prong plugin. Maybe it IS something different?!
