I'm using the "light ring off" method. Doesn't seem quite so pitiful to me:grin:

Haven't checked yet. Now that you mentioned it, maybe I should.

OK, this makes perfect sense to me now: Plug AM21 into wall socket, plug HR21 into AM21.

My thinking was focused on DIRECTV supplying some kind of combo-type power cord to connect both the HR21 and AM21 with just one cord... but having a power socket on the back of the AM21 just seems like it would add cost to the AM21.

The light ring off method doesn't work here. We have both an HR20 and HR21 tied to the same system. We use a Harmony 880 to control everything. Half the time when my wife switches everything off, she puts the remote into the cradle before all of the commands are sent to sequence everything down. This terminates the IR transmission and it leaves the HR20 off and the HR21 on. The only time the light ring is reliable is when I shut everything off late at night..

I wonder if they give you a short 1 ft power cord to connect everything together or make you find room to coil up the 6 footer that comes with the HR21.

I keep looking at the pic, and I just can't say for sure that it ISN'T some kind of proprietary connector....
There is definitely a standard power in plug on the back of the AM21, labelled "power input".
There is another on the right rear corner, labelled "power output"...this is the one that could be either/or standard 2 prong or proprietary.

I thought it had a short output power cable with the same plug as the back of the HRs.. but it's been a while since I read all the threads on it..

I did Monday morning before going to the hospital. 0x1f4 from the other side of the room looks like 0x114. I thought I got it until I realized the date downloaded was a Friday night.

 That happened to me Friday night during the CE. When I double check to see what version got downloaded. I thought it downloaded the wrong one.

Wow, how slow do you have the remote going? When I press the off button on my 880, everything shuts off at practically the same time. There is no discernable delay.

I have not checked my software yet. I expect Earl or I will get a note that it is coming. :)

The power cords are such that you unplug the cord from the back of the HR21, and plug that straight into the AM21. Then the AM21 has a cord that goes from the AM21 into the HR21.

The whole point is to not increase the number of outlets required and simplify the connections.

    Cheers,
    Tom

It's not that the remote is slow, it's just that my wife is impatient and gives it a quick push and puts it down. If she would wait 6 seconds (timed by stop watch)for the TV and stereo and both HRxxs to start the secquence everything would be fine. If she would just put the remote on the table it would work also, but she has to drop it into the cradle which terminates the sequence early.

Are the power requirements so high that they couldn't have used usb power? Just curious.

6 seconds is obscenely slow. My TV, receiver, and HR20 turn off immediately. Not even the most impatient person in the world could interrupt the process, it's too fast. Your remote is incredibly slow.

I checked before I signed in tonight. Only once so far! The power cords are simple for us, but do you think the average or below avarage person will get it. The HR21 in to the AM21 to the wall. I bet D* gets a lot of calls about it when it gets released. Installers aren't going to be the only ones putting them in!
