I just added an AM21 to my Genie HR34-700 following the DTV instructions.
My AM21 stays on (blue light) when I shut the system down. The power cords run through each other as the directions state, so why does this happen? Do I need to program my remote for the AM21? I asked this Q on the DTV technical forum and got a reply back (do not think it was a DTV employee) but they said that is just the way it goes.
Everything else shuts down with one button, but there is no way to shut the AM21. Does anyone know if there is a software fix on the hprizon or a trick I can use? Thanks!

I use electrical tape myself. I doubt a software fix is on the way because this is how it's always been with the HR34/AM21.

You can dim the front panel lights (pressing left+right arrow buttons on HR34 at the same time until they all go off) but there is no way to turn them off entirely.

    Hi edvo
This has been a problem for a long time. If the BLUE LIGHT really bothers you, put a piece of black tape over it and forget it. No harm if the AM21 stays on.

I have always assumed that the AM21 stays on with the Genies so that the unit is available to the clients. That's the only thing I can think of because it shut off with the DVR when it was attached to a HR24.

The DTV remotes will only turn on / off a TV and the DTV receiver with the On and Off buttons.

A hole punch and black tape makes a perfect circle to fit over the blue light. I don't know why you need to know that the AM21 is on. BUT, I am not sure that is true (about the DTV remotes) because when I got the HR-44 to replace the HR-34, I finally noticed (by peeking under the tape) that the AM21, which is plugged directly into the wall on the 44, goes on and off with the remote. Either the new, tiny remote, or the old clunky one. So, I took the tape off.

Thanks for all the replies! Just wanted to make sure I was not missing anything. I guess I can live with a light that looks like it is Rhody Blue!

The AM21 turns off when the receiver is powered off when it is not attached to a HR34 or HR44.

HR34 doesn't turn off the AM21 when HR34 is turned off.

HR21 through HR24 and HR44's do turn off the AM21.
If it is not, then it is not connected properly.

Won't turn off now on my HR22 after a pervious update. HR34 never turned off. Both AM21 and the AM21N(?) plugged into the DVRs. Will try direct into the wall.
