greetings all. does anyone still use the AM21? I have a couple that I no longer use and wondering if they are headed to the landfill or if they have any market value

There is still a market for them, unless you already have enough money in your household.......

Depends if you consider $150+ on eBay as having market value.

I have 7 sitting on my shelf in basement, two of them brand new in sealed in original box yet (backups/spares to the others I have attached to IRD's). Probably going to sell those soon.........

In late 2016, someone paid over $300 for a new one I sold on eBay when the concern reached a peak threshold. Those numbers are long gone, but these darn things still work with most everything except the HS17/27 so there is still value. Heck, we do most of our network programming/recording from them yet!

p.s.- my wife still spends too much at Christmas for all the family members! The selling income doesn't come close to the purchases!! :)

I still use mine. I had to replace a bad one right before Directv stopped selling them for $50. It is mainly used when I am traveling in my motorhome. With the AM21 I can record the local stations with my HR24.

I hope they let the function of the AM21 stays as it is right now. Although very far from perfect (with the limited database, etc.) the function with my HR24 and HR44 is GOOD enough to get ALMOST ALL of the OTA channels in my DMA. I hope they don't come with a future software update (and we have many of them) that curtails the current function of the DVR/AM21. My real hope is that they come out with the rumored dongle, that will enhance OTA for HR44 54 and HS17, plus the future boxes.

I doubt the H2x/HR2x will be seeing much at all in the way of future software updates, so the odds of Directv deliberately or accidentally causing AM21s to no longer work on those are pretty small. The HR44/54 on the other hand...who knows.

If anyone is willing to sell one for a fair price, message me. I think a storm (lightning) may have taken mine out ~6months ago. My wife has a few out of market channels she likes that we can get OTA. Thanks!

I have an AM21N on SF Craigslist now, but shipping cost may not be good.
