Grrr... I had a feeling that might happen, which is why I didn't release the preliminary results.

THIS WEEKS QUESTIONS ARE NO LONGER OPTIONAL AND WILL BE SCORED NEXT WEEK.

They are now the official questions for the next episode. If you've already done them, then you are done. Otherwise you need to complete them.

The rules established for this week for non-participants no longer apply. Otherwise, scoring will be as listed in the rules.

(now watch and they'll put in two eliminations in the next episode... doh!)

But they are still only referring to the current leg (Leg 6) that we still haven't seen the end of, and not to Leg 7, right? In other words, there won't be any "Who comes in first/gets eliminate this week" questions referring to Leg 7 (assuming that next week's episode is considered another leg).

Also, does this change how anything is being scored? Kinda sucks for those that took the chance just to find out that it didn't mean anything.

Yes, all the questions refer to LEG 6 results. If there is a leg 7 included in next week's episode, I guess I'm out of luck.

Kinda sucks for those that took the chance just to find out that it didn't mean anything.

Yeah, I know... I had thought they would at least have concluded the previous leg last week. But without that info, the only question I can score is the detour.

Just think of it as racing to the next event... only to find out the gates don't open up until everyone else arrives. ;)

But stay tuned... if I hear word by tommorrow that next week WILL include a leg 7, I'll be posting new questions.

Are last week's optional and this week's mandatory detour question still going to be scored so that they have a median value of 0, or are they going to be scored the same as they have been in the past?

I'll still use the 0 average score for this week.

Just to clarify...SO is everyone supposed to participate this week - originally it was voluntary I thought????

Originally it was voluntary. However that was based on the belief that the Dec. 28th episode would complete Leg 6 and this coming episode would have Leg 7.

But since that wasn't to be, rather than create yet another set of questions covering the exact same leg, I decided just to make the set mandatory.

So yes, everyone must complete the HOLIDAY questions or be penalized as a non-participant for this week.

With two weeks of data to score, I'll have the results up tommorrow sometime.

The permanent web link above has some preliminary scoring, but its NOT official yet and has several errors.

New data is up. Due to a slow response time this week by the leaders, the response bonus helped a lot of folks, and the leaderboard shuffled.

Welcome to two new players who answered quickly and thus avoided being last place.

    Danny,

The page CoriBright shows for her response shows the following:

    From Budapest - N├ępstadion Station Destination (Approx. travelling time, and price, in brackets) Departure EGER (2 - 3 1/4 hrs, 1 222 HUF) Every 15 min - 1 hr between 06:00 - 20:45.

This is the only reference to EGER. Wouldn't that be the wrong direction for the question? The question wants Eger to Budapest, not the other way around...

    My page was http://www.diamond-congress.hu/ehrs/ghtml/timetable.html

Yeah, I'm reviewing the question so scores might change.

cdru PM'd me the same complaint.

Darn it, but I wish I could read Hungarian. ;) I'll get back to folks later tonight on this one.

As Danny said, I PMed this as well. The hard part about scoring the question is, what information do you want to go by. Saulres, your answer was based on a html document dated 29-Jan-2002. Mine was from 12-Sep-2004. The time of 20:10 was from some type of a look up website in Hungarian, so I can't tell the authenticity. 20:10 is the latest time, but just for that day. If you do a search for today, you'd get a latest time of 18:45.

That's not hard at all! I'd go by the one that I submitted :D

But I imagine Danny would go by the current one, or whichever one was current at the time of the question. I dunno.

Oh, and thanks for the tip about checking page times! ;)

Yeah, that Hungarian page is actually a ticket reservation form that was a link from a travel agents site, so I just put in the next day (which was the 2nd), and looked at all of the available trains from Eger to Budapest. 20:10 was the latest available on the 2nd.

For what it's worth, here are 2 pictures showing the schedule results page for 1/2/05 from Eger to Budapest. I've circled the date on the top of the 1st image, and I've circled the latest departure from Eger on the 2nd image. To generate this page, go to this site: http://db.menetrendek.hu/cgi-bin/menetrend/html.cgi?konyv=2)

In the Honnan box (the one with the picture of the arrow pointing away from the dot) enter Eger. In the Hova box, (the one with the picture of the arrow pointing towards the dot) enter Budapest. Make sure the date is set to 1/2/05 at the bottom of the form, and then click the link box at the bottom of the form (Kereses inditasa). You will then be taken to the schedule page that I've shown as screenshots.

Also, for what it's worth, today's (1/5/05) latest departure is 18:45 from Eger to Budapest. Looking at various days for this week, it looks like on Sundays, the latest departure is 20:10, while every other day of the week, the latest depature is 18:45.

So, if you want to compare dates of pages, mine is definitely the most current... :)

And, one more edit, looking in a Hungarian to English dictionary, Honnan translates roughly to "Where from" and Hova translates to "Where to" or "Whither".

I found the same web site - same thing - tried several days (just not a Sunday) going out at least a month to come up with 18:45...

This is what I get for not researching the matter fully before thinking up a question. ;)

It does appear that the original answer I thought correct is an arrival, not departure time, and some other sources are from older timetables and no longer valid.

And likewise depending on the day the time could change. Thus I'll be judging BOTH 20:10 and 18:45 as correct and getting the best scores, and other answers as wrong, with your answers scored according to time it took to respond. Point spread will still be the same, from -2 to +2

Those of you who lost points because of this change know who to blame. ;)

    I'll fix the tables tommorrow.

Sorry, but I discovered another error (mattoshag wasn't properly credited for his Leg4 opt out back in Leg 4 - discovered it when I was about to penalize him for his Hera/Gus choice), so I'm doing a more extensive check. I'll have it up sometime Saturday.

This season has been Amateur Night as far as my scorekeeping has gone. ;)
