Thanks for the reminder. I would have never thought about doing that.
I'm hearing vocals from behind me instead of on the center speaker in front ofd me on all AMC 5.1 shows!
I didn't notice that myself on this weekend's Walking Dead. In fact, I thought the surround sound was quite good, with footfalls and other such noise that should have been behind what was featured on the screen coming from the back speakers and in the right directions. I was quite impressed with it, actually. But I did notice a bit of a lip synch problem for a while during the show.
Yeah, the audio was (and still is) all out of whack. It sounds like what is supposed to be the center channel is in front left and the left/right fronts are in the surrounds.
I had the same issue with the season finale of Breaking Bad. They corrected the problem about 10 minutes into the show.
I was thinking about my earlier post and I realized that I watched the second showing of Walking Dead, not the first showing earlier in the evening. Just like the season finale of Breaking Bad last week, they must have fixed the audio problem by the time the reaired it.
I'm still having the voice problem with AMC HD. The voices seem centered on the left front and left rear surround. The center and front right are much quieter. This happens on Dolby Digital, but not when I turn Dolby Digital off. But this defeats the purpose of having a nice 5.1 surround system. But this horribly annoying hearing voices coming from the left. Boo, I hope they fix this soon!
AMC HD is not jittery on the Canadian satellite company Shaw Direct, compared to Directv. It must be a Directv issue.
Just thought I'd comment on the quality of AMC HD -- man, is it bad. I know it's not really DirecTV's fault (AMC's HD feed, at the source, is only a ~8 Mbps 1080i MPEG2 broadcast) -- but, in conjunction with the 16mm film grain in "The Walking Dead" -- it really looks just awful. They should be ashamed that they're providing such a low quality feed.... even the iTunes HD releases look better than the broadcast. Pathetic.
Unless AMC is providing Shaw Direct with a better feed.
I noticed last night, and several times over the last week or so, that even HDNet has had some smoothness tics and hiccups. I think I even noticed it on HBO last night as well. I won't dispute that at least Walking Dead doesn't seem as clear as I'd like, though some movies appear just fine to me, but I'm not 100% convinced that the hiccups are an AMC issue.
Walking Dead renewed for season 3!!!
Christmas is the 25th this year!!!
I'm having a worse problem in that I can't record AMC HD. If I try, when I go to play it back, I get that error message at the lower right that says all or some of the program did not record; do I want to delete?
AMC records fine in SD, and other channels record fine in HD.
Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any ideas how to fix it? (When AMC first went HD on DirecTV, we were able to record a couple of shows in HD. But since then, it doesn't work.)
For the last two weeks I've tried recording The Soup when it first airs, and both times the recording fails at about 5 minutes in. Then I tried recording the rerun a few hours later, and it works perfectly fine. Have you tried recording the repeat later that night?
None of my other recording's have this problem either, including The Walking Dead. Weird.
All my other channels are dead smooth. HBO is perfect. AMC/Rainbow is the only one with the obvious brutal frame rate reduction "shudders". They have totally slammed their own bandwidth down because they got greedy and are trying to jam too much content into too small a pipe. And through whatever lousy carriage deal they have, D* is letting them get away with it.
"Have you tried recording the repeat later that night?"
Not later that same night, but later in the week. It still won't record HD. Which of course is frustrating, because AMC does have some great shows.
FWIW, every time I get the message that packets weren't received, etc., I hit rewind, or play or stop or FF, and it generally will play. Might be worth a go.
Did you change the channel in your Series Manager? There are now two AMC channels! AMC & AMCHD
