As long as it's after Saturday for me. But for them to suggest that subscibers may miss Mad Men or Better Call Saul is a bit much.

    Here we go again.

I hope directv heads this off and the foolishness doesn't start.

AMC is under contract through the end of the year. AMC knows they don't have any leverage after Walking Dead ends in a couple weeks and so they're just trying to use scare tactics.

They've been running commercials for a few weeks now actually without much success so I'm surprised they haven't ramped up the rhetoric.

They are obviously trying to force a massive hike in price if they are starting a campaign this big this much in advance of their renewals... Screw it, let them go dark... They will come back...

I hope this doesn't lead to us losing these channels, I just switched back to them (DIRECTV) from Suddenlink for Viacom channels besides the occasional cartoon, and comedy central, I only watch AMC and BBC (doctor who)

I saw the AMC push for the first time tonight during Walking Dead early on, then the DirecTV response ad around 45 min into the program. Very clever and well designed Ad, DirecTV. Funny how AMC address us as 'satellite customer' and not DirecTV customer, like other previous network disputes.

I love the show since its inception, but I also love when my pay TV provider (DirecTV) does not bend over and grab something for insane price increases by the networks. AMC may want to review recent history with The Weather Channel and see how badly they got bit and infected after their attempt!

AMC needs to find a better hobby....
I like Walking Dead and other shows on AMC, BBC America, & WE but don't mind missing them for a while... AMC makes enough $$$ from their commercials they run so often. Also don't like the other channels they own... I hope one day every channel is A La Carte not "bundled" like AMC and its affiliates.
Maybe if they (AMC & DirecTV) make the pricing differences public instead of being a mystery, this may help us determine for ourselves which way we vote.

DirecTV's contract for AMC Networks doesn't expire until the end of the year. The series 8 finale for Doctor Who is next week, then you have the Christmas special, after that they don't even start filming for series 9 until January.

BBC America is iffy though, technically the AMC Networks deal to gain control of the channel hasn't been finalized yet. Even if it is finalized by the time AMC's contract expires, unless DirecTV's contract for BBC America expires at the same time, they would still have to honor the existing contracts that DirecTV and all other providers have for the channel.

AMC Networks Warns It May Go Dark On DirecTV

(deadline.com) - AMC Networks adroitly alerted its viewers about the possible service interruption for DirecTV’s 20.2M subs during its hit The Walking Dead. Its carriage agreement with DirecTV expires mid-way through the season, it says. Although the programmer adds that it has “great respect” for the No. 1 satellite company’s management, DirecTV “has not engaged in meaningful negotiations with us, which leaves us to doubt whether a timely renewal is possible. In addition, DirecTV is in violation of our current agreement, and it has dropped AMC in Latin America....

Plus, BBCA isn't a major bargaining chip even if it was part of this (I do find it interesting that they say we risk losing it). While BBC America is popular here, it is certainly not a major player in the cable market as a whole.

There is one show I watch on WE occasionally, but I would not really miss it if the channel goes dark. I have not watched BBCA since shows like Changing Rooms, Ground Force, Ballylkissangle, Monarch of the Glen, Hamish Macbeth, and Lovejoy were cancelled, and I have never watched any of the other channels owned by AMC. If the channels do go dark, I doubt it will be for very long (remember Viacom?). AMC needs DirecTV's 20 million viewers more than DirecTV needs AMC.

Being a huge Walking Dead fan, this would be a blow - however the timing is right for us to not miss anything we deem meaningful.

I'd be willing to let DirecTV call AMC's bluff so long as they come back before the mid-season break is over.

    • Drop them, they will come back on just like the The Weather Channel did. When has a channel stayed off. You can go to dish... no wait they don't have a bunch of Turner channels right now.

If it expires and they are not paying for AMC programming anymore does this mean we will see a decrease in our bills? I know it won't but if they decide to hold out I don't think we should continue paying for something we don't get.
