I get the feeling he currently devotes about 4 hours a week at most to the show, including on-air time!

And Danny did look absurd with that jacket on, but no more than Simon walking in next to the other three nattily-attired judges.

Add that to not knowing the contestant's names, and it's almost like he's showing contempt for the show!

All that said, I agree with Simon's critiques more than the others. /steve

Me too Steve.... Definitely lean towards Simon though I think he was off base with Lil last night. Paula is just totally obnoxious... I do hope the dump here.. She just rambles and I really think she is taking happy juice during the show.

I thought just about everyone did well last night. If A.I. has ever had a stronger group of top 10/11 then I missed that season ( i did miss 2 seasons).

Was definitely thinking that Anoop was by far the weakest link until last night. He really did well. Showed that he can flat out sing, no karaoke krap.

Danny was strong as usual. He'll probably win the whole thing. There's such power in his voice. Some velvet too, like Ruben Studdard. And versatility. When he cuts loose it's always something special.

Matt also turned in a nice performance. Solid musician and performer.

Kris took a chance and invited the audience in to a tender, introspective song. I say "invited in" because there's usually such pressure on these contestants to "WOW" the judges and all of America by pouring forth vocal pyrotechnics. This was the opposite. Instead of pinning our ears back we got to lean forward in our seats and peer into his song-world. A very enjoyable change of pace.

Allison did pin our ears back but I didn't mind. She is so special on stage. And that voice! An extraordinary talent.

I liked Lil's effort too. Maybe it wasn't THE best song for her but she did pretty well with it. I'm looking forward to hearing more from her.

Adam's song was definitely NOT boring. The vocals were great and I give him credit for not trying to be something he's not. Looked and sounded like something from the Rocky Horror Picture Show but that's his theatrical background and the entertainment value was HUGE. Even if you hated it (which many undoubtedly did) it's hard to deny the guy's individuality and skills. The vocals were -- to use another Big Dog description -- DOPE!

Boy can I ever sympathize with Megan! I've been sick too. For her to get up there and perform the way she did while battling the flu is impressive. Has someone with the flu ever looked more beautiful in world history? No.

    Next: the bottom three.

Scott MacIntyre did well in his Scott MacIntyre way. I'm not going to belittle him because he doesn't have the Major League "Pipes" that some others have in this competition. He's the Brooke White of this year's group. Feels the songs very deeply, puts his gentle soul into every performance, connects with the audience. Always enjoyable to listen to.

Michael Sarver's Country Rap was impressive but not especially memorable. How he remembered all 3333 words of that song is beyond me! He did well with it but I guess I too thought he would excel even more in Country Week. It was good but it wasn't great.

The only one who really disappointed me last night was Alexis. "Jolene, Jolene, Jolene," it's about pain! I didn't feel any pain or vulnerability in her performance. Some anger yes, but no vulnerability. Paula said it was good to see that side of her but I didn't see or feel it at all. And the poor girl just gets more bad advice to "dirty herself up," blow it out, get raunchier, etc. No. please no! The girl needs to do what Kris Allen did; relax, release, invite the audience in. Instead now we're likely to be subjected to even more of what's the problem in the first place. Too much trying to impress and pin our ears back. And the prescription from the judges is for more over-singing and melodrama to come. Exactly the opposite of what she needs to do, imo. I say this as someone who wants Alexis to do well. The girl has talent. she just needs to let us see who she really is as an artist. Maybe she doesn't know herself and that's part of the problem. Would hate to see her go home tonight. Too much potential.

Add me to the "HATED IT" crowd for Adam's Ring of Fire.

Lil was rough, rough, rough, IMO. I like her, but not good this week.

Michael Sarver missed the boat this week. He could have been really good this week, but came up short.

Alexis. Please, go home, now. I really can't stand her.

Allison. She's good, but definitely not my cup of tea.

Kris was brilliant this week. Super choice to perform without the guitar.

Scott is good behind the piano, but he needs to show he can do more than sit at the piano and play, or he won't be long for this competition.

I really, really like Danny. He's really good. He's not brilliant, but he's solid, and he's got a really nice tone to his voice, and he seems to be a charming guy.

Anoop was the surprise of the night. Really, really good this week. Probably top 3 or 4 for me this week.

Megan is fast becoming my favorite. I don't know what it is about her voice, but there's something to it that I absolutely love. Her whole quirky style really works, for me. I don't think she has a snowball's chance in hell of actually winning this competition, but I think if she releases a CD, it'll absolutely find it's way into my collection!

Matt Giraud was really good. To some extent, I have the same criticism of him that I have of Scott. We know he's brilliant at the piano, but he's got to show more. He was my favorite guy of the night, though.

Are you sure it's just her voice that's affecting you? ;)

I thought so highly of Tuesday's performances that I went back and listened to them all a second time, but with eyes closed. Sometimes listening with eyes closed can reveal things missed the first time through. For some reason my eyes refused to stay closed for Megan's replay though. ;)

Do I win a prize for having my finger on the pulse of America in requesting that Alexis go home? :D

Actually, I was surprised that she was in the bottom 3. I couldn't stand her, but I didn't expect to see her going home.

And... peak... I can't stand watching Megan, but I really like listening to her. She's one of the few that I have to close my eyes in order to watch!

Alexis was gonna go sooner or later, but I though Michael should have gone first. Apparently the judges agreed, because they predetermined that the "save" was only gonna be used for Alexis, if needed.

I do not like the "OK, now you have to sing for your life" aspect of the "save" process. I think it's demeaning. The judges weren't really listening, so if it's just a distraction for the audience while they are deliberating, I'd rather see them go to commercial break and then just come back with a decision.

And I've said this before. When a contestant is voted off, I'd rather not hear them sing the vocal that got them booted, unless that's what the singer wants. Otherwise, I think each singer should pick a past performance they feel best represents them, to be played on their final night. Just my .02. /steve

I agree with you Steve on both points... Though I like the idea of the save... it should be immediate, but I believe the real reason of the save is to create more drama.

As for Alexis going... Well I think America got it wrong. Michael and Scott based on performances should be the ones going. Could she win.. She was a long shot but did have something unique in her voice. She deserved to go on tour and would have been a better addition that Scott, Michael, or Anoop. Anoop did not deserve to go home based on his song on Tuesday but I think She would be a better tour choice than Anoop.

I agree with Steve on both his points as well.

Vocally, you may be right, Ron... Alexis may be better. But, in the popularity contest that is American Idol, I always though she seemed cold and a bit aloof. I'm sure some of that is editing, since the judges wanted her to be "naughty" and "dirty".

I'm not sure who Alexis is. The cute girl who came to the audition, or the girl trying to be "dirty" that we've seen the last few weeks. I think on the popularity side of things that hurt her.

We know Scott is the guy at the piano, and Michael is the blue collar country boy.... but Alexis is a bit of a question mark, to me. Add that to a couple of average (or below average) performances (IMO), and you have a recipe for getting voted off early.

Good points Sharkie, though I thought her performance last week was one of the better ones and felt Anoop should have been dropped last week instead of Jasmine based on vocals.

But you are right... It is a popularity contest and time and time again people that have more talent and might be more marketable get passed up for likability. How can someone not like Anoop. He did surprise me this week and time will tell how much likability will overcome versatility because I don't think Anoop has a lot there.

Michael has the same issues in my eyes, Good voice and a very likable guy. Problem is there is nothing special I see that a lot of the others possess. I am speaking of Danny, Lil, Adam and even Megan. I also think that Kris, Alexis, Allison, Matt, and possible Anoop might have it inside them.

Kris really suprised me the most this week. Something very unique came out of him as he stripped down that song.

Definitely a big week and really not a bad performance.. Sorry to see Alexis go, but I can see where you guys are coming from.

For me.. it would have been Michael or Scott. I see them leaving shortly.
