I wouldn't say I'm personally vested, but I do feel a little cheated, that's all. No one held a gun to my head and forced me to watch but I did so with the belief that there would be a payoff at the end that I found pleasing. I'm now four or so hours from the conclusion to this 5-month odyssey wishing that I hadn't started.

Ya. It's really a shame this was your first exposure to Idol. I found the past 2-3 seasons very enjoyable.

E.g., last season it seemed like every week, one contestant or another would step-up with a performance I thought was good enough to warrant a replay or two. And Adam and Alison killed on duet week, IMHO.

Imo, last night's show was one of the worst in memory.

First Ryan sits the remaining contestants down on a couch and peppers them with lame, inane, predictable questions. Then the contestants dutifully drone back lame, inane, predictable answers. This went on for what seemed like half an hour. I never thought I would feel joy when the Ford commercial came on but I nearly did last night since it put a stop to that ridiculous Q&A session on the couch.

But then things got even worse. After a few more dozen commercials (it's easy to figure by how many times I need to hit the 30 second skip button) we're back in the theater and the camera pans over to the massive publicity whore Perez Hilton. That almost brought up my dinner all by itself but it got worse. Apparently he managed to scrape together a large pile of cash in order to buy the glory pimp slot for his pet singer who I thankfully can't remember the name of even though they plastered the set with it in "HOLLYWOOD" sign sized letters the whole time he was on. This "Major Discovery" was a pint-sized poser who proceeded to demonstrate his utter lack of anything special, dancing, prancing, and "singing" about the stage with the usual array of worthless talent posing and prancing around him. Entertainment 19 must have signed this crap or, as I say, there had to be a mountain of cash changing hands to buy the pimp. I hope nobody buys the crap and it teaches A.I. a lesson for shoving such feces in our faces.

A.I. really will wither and die if they keep this up.

Oh yeah, the last minute was all anyone cared to see. Casey went home, big surprise, buried under a steaming pile of manure.

Makes me very happy we didn't watch it last night. We enjoyed Monday night's Castle and L&O double-header instead. :)

Yeah, last night was lame .. they didn't even have much drama surrounding the final three .. just kinda blurting it out. Even Crystal was surprised as she said "Am I safe?"

I guess I'm officially old now as the two youngn's singing were skipped right over. I totally don't get the Justin Beiber love fest in the media.

A teacher friend I knew found that sketch intensely disquieting and I agree, it's in bad taste.

It's borderline, I admit, but considering the lateness of the hour it aired and the Gloria Aldred reference at the end, I gave it a pass.

I didn't think it was actionably bad taste, I agree with you there. But as I said this teacher friend of mine was highly put off.

Understandably so. I watched through Tina Fey's eyes, knowing she is a mom and figured if she wasn't OK with it, the sketch wouldn't have aired. A panel of school teachers probably would have censored it, tho.

Not a big shocker last night. I hope they give them good songs to sing next week.

Yeah, over time Casey's extremely limited vocal range and limited dynamic and even genre range were gonna sink him. Not to mention that horrible little goat vibrato of his. Cuteness ain't enough.

So we're left with a chubby hippie busker mom and a guy who actually looks like he should be working in a paint store. No matter how far I stretch my credulity I cannot imagine either singing at the Grammys. Anymore than I can David Cook or Taylor Hicks.

The audience pick next week will be based on Crystal's diabetes or Lee's crying dad. Music went out the window years ago. Which is why Ellen didn't even bother to learn any musical terms for the 3 million a year they pay her. She's there for comic relief except there's no comedy, and certainly no relief in sight.

Just a quick post to let people know that my harsh criticism of the talentless wonder on A.I. last night was not in reference to Justin Bieber. Justin Bieber is Enrico Caruso compared to the Perez Hilton pet performer who was pimped last night.

OK, folks, I've done a little cleanup here. Let's try not to be quite so... judgmental toward others.

At least there's a bit of suspense for the finale. Does America favor Lee or Crystal?

For myself I can honestly say that it will come down to the final performances. For now they are absolutely tied in my book based on everything we've heard on the show up to this point. If I include what I've heard of Crystal on youtube with her own songs then I put her ahead. But that's not fair to Lee because for all I know he has done some things outside of A.I. which show him in a good light too.

Lee has grown more and imo shown a lot of potential but does he have genuine artistry? I can't say I've heard it from him yet. What he does have is an amazingly rich, complex voice.

Crystal is more fully developed as an artist, and more mature musically, but she hasn't show the amount of growth over the course of the show that Lee has. Is there room for more growth with her or has she maxxed out so-to-speak?

Also, Crystal does not have half the voice that Lee has, but she does twice as much with it as he does imo. She can reveal poetic light and shadow in softer passages, but then when pushing hard to satisfy the expectations of Idol showstopping "moments" her voice falters and the unpleasant shouting ensues. She simply does not have a big enough instrument for it.

Lee, on the other hand, has a large, showstopping voice but it's not entirely under his control. So he is most challenged by softer passages where his vocal line is exposed and the pitch problems are most apparent. Sometimes he's so "off" it is painful to hear, whereas I've not once heard Crystal sing a single note out of tune. But when he is "on" it's great to hear just because the voice is so rich.

For me it will come down to the final performances. Even though the season has been a big disappointment overall, I do think the two best contestants are left. It will be interesting to see which one rises to the occasion and which one comes up short.

I would agree peak, the two best are definitely left and that is a rarity on idol. It will be interesting to see who wins. Personally I have to give a slight nod to Crystal and that usually is the kiss of death for the contestant. ;)

Sorry to disagree, but the best singers left the building long ago. :nono:

Absolutely. Siobhan mopped the floor with these losers week after stunning week. She has an incredible voice, gorgeous looks, and an awesome stage presence. And week after week, the judges dissed her, insulted her, gave her all manner of damning with faint praise, they trashed her.

So we're left with 2 bar band singers that if you walked into some little dive you'd say, "Eh, they're ok." But that's about it. And you wouldn't even have to pay to hear em besides the price of a beer.

Lee has little dynamics, or vocal range, or as mentioned above ability to handle soft passages without his voice breaking and losing intonation. Intonation is what us musicians and producers call "pitch".

But his worst aspect as a performer is that he has zero stage presence. He gets out there, de-focuses from his audience, closes his eyes and bobbles his head around the whole time. EPIC FAIL.

Crystal on the other hand has a lot of dynamics, relates to her audience somewhat, though not great, but is most comfortable in the bluesy Janis Joplin/Joss Stone girl-belts-da-blooze busker thing.

Now most of the females bouncing out of AI go into country-pop, it's very female-friendly. But I can't see Crystal going there: they hate girl power tude, piercings, that whole hippie thing is their enemy. Country pop is all about simpy femme little Taylor Swifts and Shanias and Faith Hills looking HOT and basically being toys for boys with gun racks in their pickup trucks. Crystal would never be a boy toy. Nor cop to that specific redneck lifestyle. Not gonna happen.

So if you cut off that path to success, it's awfully hard to see where she could go as a solo act. Lee neither.

However, I propose that she duets up with Lee to produce a little of that magic they had in their duet that night. That was the only moment I got chills from either one of them, ever.

Let's face it, neither has the looks or pop-cultural talent to really make it big on their own. But as a quirky duet (Captain & Tenille, Sonny & Cher, Ian & Sylvia, etc etc) I actually see them becoming a commercial entity. It could happen!
