And the winner is... TVersity!

Thank you very much. I did set up that first url that you gave me and it works!! I was so happy to hear my Jack FM via the DVR. Thought it was lost to me for good this time. I also added the url you just gave me so hopefully Jack FM will still play tomorrow and beyond.

Where do you find the url's for the various radio stations? I would love to add The Track 107.9 and possibly Hank FM from here in Indy, plus my London rock/oldies and BBC stations via radiotime.com's web site but I don't know where to find the proper url's that will let me access the stations via my DVR's. I had been bringing up the particular station's player and waiting till it buffered then copying the url at the top of the player box and putting that in the url slot in TVersity but that's not worked for me, so obviously I'm not getting the correct url's. I'd be very grateful if you might tell me where you have been finding them. Again many, many thanks.

As I'm disabled I depend on my DVR's a lot for entertainment and I'd really missed being able to listen to my radio stations since TVersity dropped radiotime.com from their latest versions, although otherwise I really love the new TVersity.

There is a tool called URL Snooper - this is how I get the stream urls. Its pretty straight forward - you install it (and WinPCap) and start it. Then start a stream in a web browser and it will capture the stream address. Then you just paste that into TVersity as an audio URL and you're off.

Anyway here are a couple of other ones

    ClassicFM
    http://mediasrv-the.musicradio.com/ClassicFM

    The Track 107.9
    http://stream.radiotime.com/listen.stream?streamId=578217

    The Diamond 88.7
    http://mp3.ihets.org/wicr

Hank FM might be a no go. They appear to be actively thwarting anyones ability to stream to anything outside their swf player. I didn't spend much time trying to get it though.

I find the stations that use streamaudio a pain because the URL changes constantly. There are a few others that do the same thing.

FYI, I used to live in Kokomo (Worked at Delco Electronics) and I occasionally listen to the Indy stations :)

Thank you again, so much for your help I really appreciate it. I will try that URL snooper. Is WinPCap a program I will need to download from the internet? I agree with you about Hank FM, it seems that now they want all your personal info before you can even listen online, it's just not worth it to me, not much of a country station listener anyway. Mostly 70's-80's rock/oldies.

I have discovered the "Shoutcast" radio stations now and they are really easy to add to TVersity so I have added some of those. Again, thank you so much for the help.

I just started using Tveristy, it is great.

Has anyone successfully streamed their Sirius Internet Radio to the HR2X series.

I am using usirius and tversity 1.0. I have no issues getting the stream to work with my PS3, however with my HR20, it finds the audio feed, but each of the actual channels has an "X" to the left of it and it will not play.

Again, no problems with my PS3, using the exact same method.

I'd prefer not to have to use the PS3 to do extra power consumption.

I am using uXM with no issue.

Couple of things - what version of TVersity and did you install the codec pack ?

The X means it is not being indicated to be audio/wav to the HR20. For test/debug if you are using auto detect - I would try setting the profile to HR20/1 w.Wav and restart sharing - if that works then there is a possibility it is using the wrong profile. To fix that you can open the profiles.xml file and add a line to the HR20/1 profile like this (inserting the IP of the HR20):
    Code:
    <devicesIP value="111.222.333.444"/>
Then save and just switch back to auto and restart sharing and hopefully that gets it.

I had the profile set to the HR20/1 HD Reciever w.WAV & MP3. I changed it to the one you suggested, saved and restarted tversity and it worked.

I may not have restarted before saving before.

I did notice the stream starts much more quickly with the HR20 than it did with the PS3.

    Thanks for getting me going.

Its a bit confusing with the 3 different profiles - basically at one point it looked like there was a possibility MP3 decoding would be native so the profile was updated as such. And the media renderer advertises straight LPCM - but wav does actually work. So I think to cover all the bases the TVersity team created 3 profiles.

Quick HowTo on RSS Video Playlists

I have been a bit frustrated playing videos from a playlist in TVersity - the videos never had a time bar. And in Cidero the individual videos wouldn't even show up. So I set about figuring out a way to get a proper timebar and I am just quickly jotting it down. The secret is in a one liner Ronen posted on the TVersity development blog: http://tversity.blogspot.com/2006/07/playlists-in-tversity.html
Eventually I ended up with a fairly sophisticated playlist that gives me a timebar on the HR20, and the content is properly displayed on everything else I have access to - an XBox360, Cidero and Mezzmo.

The content is a Led Zeppelin concert that has been split into individual songs. And here is one example ( not including all as they just are copies of the same structure):
    Code:

The Kingdome, Seattle, Washington July 17, 1977

The entire show was professionally filmed in color. It is only found with degenerated video and good audio. However, the video is normally out of sync with the audio.

          <media:category>Classic Rock</media:category>

The Song Remains The Same

             <media:category>Classic Rock</media:category>

And that item is delivered to the HR20 like this:
    Code:

          <dc:title>The Song Remains The Same</dc:title>
          <res size="48607658" protocolInfo="http-get:*:video/mpeg:*" medium="video" duration="00:05:48.000">http://192.168.1.101:41952/getres/video/vob/50896/_file_.mpg</res>
          <upnp:icon>http://192.168.1.101:41952/images/videosmall.png</upnp:icon>
          <upnp:genre>Classic Rock</upnp:genre>
          <upnp:playlist>The Kingdome, Seattle, Washington July 17, 1977</upnp:playlist>

          <upnp:class>object.item.videoItem.videoBroadcast</upnp:class>
          <upnp:artist>Led Zeppelin</upnp:artist>

The title and item nodes are standard rss. The real magic is in the mrss namespace. The duration attribute (expressed in seconds) becomes the res/@duration and I had to add the medium attribute to change it from a generic item to a videoItem. And I tried using
for the band name - but TVersity didn't pull it in so I changed to "musician".

I found I had to include the Dublin Core namespace to get the artist name in Cidero - apparently it doesn't use upnp:artist :).

I think the rest is pretty self explanatory. The link to the Media RSS extension is here MRSS Specification

Well some more fun with playlists. Turns out you can actually get an rss feed by posting a normal upnp search with correct syntax. So the answer is yes - using a playlist you can group artists and albums (actually any data - but I think genre wouldn't get you much ) by first alpha.

Here is an example playlist that splits Artists into 5 groups '0-9','A-F',etc. I setup my query to go against the Artist/Album container object so it is presented as below - if on the other hand you use the Artists container - you would get all songs by artist sorted alpha

    A-F
    ----- Artist 1
    ----------Album A
    ----------Album B

Each playlist entry is based on search a container on a particular search axis - in this example 0/1/7/42 corresponds to the 'Albums' container

    Code:
    http://localhost:41952/medialib/search?
    q0_0=(title >= "0") and (title <="9")
    and (class derivedFrom object.container)
    &id=0/1/7/42
    &startat=0
    &count=0
    &&pfid=
    &format=rss

I have recently installed an HR21 in my Living Room and setup the media share festures on my DVR. Everything is what I expectred except that when plaaing video I get no sound. I play the same video on my PS3 it works fine. I am using TVersity as my server software. Is there a codec I need to use for the HR21? Or a special way to encode my video to get it work.?

    Thanks,

    good evening,

im having some troubles with my MEDIA SHARE service.. when i go into TV versity and click status it does not show the HR 20 under Devices. its just blank, it just started doing this recently. i can ping my router and get 0% loss. so i'm not sure where to begin the trouble shoot.

the HR 20 shows that the NETwork and INt are connected, and i see the option for MUSIC and Photo's on my menu, but it just says "unable to connect to media" or some messages similar to that?

any suggestions:confused:   btw i have the newest version of Tv versity.

For those that are using TVersity and are happy with your display settings, is there any chance that you would post your Settings, either via a bullet list or screenshots? This would make a great Sticky thread so people can't easily find the mot compatible, ideal settings for this software.

I've been using this app for a while now, and have never really been thrilled at the resulting 'stream' results. The picture seems to stretch/crop like there is something wrong with the aspect, and the video on the screen doesn't seem to be a clear/crisp as I hoped.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I have been using tversity and it is great with my HR-20. I have all my mp3 working, all my photos working. I even have video working, both mpg4 files and VOB/TS/mpeg files with 5.1 surround sound. But I do have one question.
In the begining all video was good now with both types, mpg4 and mpeg files, i get lag or stuttering. I am not sure if it is the PC or the HR-20.

    Anyone have any advice?

Where I have not had as much luck as you getting video files to work. I had the exact same issue yesterday while I was listening to mp3's. I ended up resetting my server and HR20 to get the lag cleared up. Oddly enough though at the same time I tried it on my PS3 and no problems existed. The software on the HR20's are just not that dependable compared to my PS3.

I'm having a weird issue with tversity. I am able to stream mp3,photo and video to my hr-21 using both tversity and orb. Tversity works better than orb for video playback.

The problem is, I can watch video but after a while my hr-21 shuts off the display to my TV. I still have sound from the hr-21 and the bezel lights are all still on. However, the only way to get video back is to do a reset. It does not seem to be a set amount of time but it only does it in mediashare. Any ideas?

I've got a reasonable working setup but a llingering question.

It's well noted that FF an RW don not work with Tversity/HR2x setups, but does PAUSE work?

I'd be happy with that, but no joy for me so far.

    cheers,

There is a setting in TVersity - Maximum Timeshift period which defaults to 30 minutes. Its not a 'live buffer' in the DVR context, but is how long TVersity will maintain the HTTP connection before it releases it after your device sends a PAUSE message. Basically TVersity will pause transcoding/streaming at that point and just maintain the session.

The HR2x's seem to be finicky about pausing - some people report they will time out after varying time periods. Can't really make a definitive statement on what you should expect. Sounds like yours just doesn't work at all.
