Don't forget those built in GPS units when you trade a car in also.

100 units out of 6,200 refurbished units out of 1,000,000+ shipped in 2011.

Definitely a quality control issue, but I guess it could have been much worse!

I've gotten replacement HRs that had the previous owner's SLs, Zipcodes (when we had to input them manually) and some even had programs on the Playlist. When I returned all the tablets I tried I found a setting on each one that allowed me to reset the tablet to the original factory settings.

EVERYTHING should be WIPED from anything like that before you return it, but Motorola should be wiping them before sending them out as well. I'd be suing!
As far as Directv not wiping hard drives, there really isn't anything on there to worry about. No banking stuff or passwords or anything (I don't THINK lol).

Yeah we bought a used Mercedes and when I looked at the Nav. it had all kinds of hospitals and clinics in New York and New Jersey. That's something I wouldn't have thought about when trading in a car.

You're right, but they should still be wiped clean. They don't even check if the replacements work. I've received too many HRs that didn't work to believe they check them correctly.

What they should REALLY do, once they've made sure everything works correctly, is do a complete format, then open it up and clean it out. It SHOULD be just like new when the next person gets it.
