Love DirecTV's high quality and programming yet sick of the high cost. Are any Dallas cable providers quality and programming equal to or better than DirecTV?
Our daughter and son-in-law had Time Warner (later exchanged for Comcast) for a number of years and the picture quality was quite good. The CC's DVR was adequate but definitely not a match for the latest Tivo unit (Roamio).
They switched to DirecTv a few months ago and the PQ seems about the same to me.
I was just talking to a Cox Cable installer about this. Neither of us is sure, but we suspect R/W speeds to DVR hard drives is probably pretty much the same for every device that uses them.
So, if a Genie, for instance, is saving 5 HD channels at once to the drive, and a cable box is doing 6, we suspect the same (or nearly the same) number of bytes is written per second, and are either distributed to 5 channels or 6 (seems like somewhere there is a cableco with 7 or 8 now) and you'd probably see the difference in PQ in a side by side comparison. (and that is tricky to arrange)
But we don't know for sure. Maybe the encoding on cable is more efficient (whatever that means) and the actual bytes per channel is not as important.
Does anyone have actual knowledge on this ?
