Based on comments in the thread below where one DBSTalk member got three DIRECTV receivers (H20-600, H20-100, and HR20-700) to work in IR-mode in one room, I tried various combinations with the HR21 but could not succeed in finding a working IR code set other than 00001 and 00003.

Right now I have HR20-700 #1 on 00001 and HR20-700 #2 on 00003, both running from a Harmon Kardon TC30 (Harmony) universal remote, and the HR21 is running in RF mode, with all three receivers in my living room.

Has anyone had any luck coming up with new IR code combinations on the HR21?

    Cedar Park,...
I put the HR21 in with code 00003, the same as an HR20. I haven't found another code that will work with either one. Code 00002 worked on an H20-600 but I moved that upstairs when I got the HR21.

That's too bad there aren't more code sets that can work ... I was hoping the newer box would allow more combinations.

I really hope DIRECTV changes this in the future to allow multiple HR20/HR21 receivers to run in the same room, but I guess the question is ... which will come first, MRV or new code sets? I think I know the answer ...

I guess they are relying on the USB serial control for more than two in the picture.

Has anyone tried USB serial control with HR21 yet?

I have a couple questions for anyone that can answer them. With the USB serial control all you do is connect a USB cable to the USB port on any receiver that is capable of doing this and run the other end to a PC. Is that correct? If so where do you get the software for this?

I would think you need to write your own ...

My LG TV includes instructions for the serial data stream, including what code to prepend to each transmission. I half-heartedly played around with a serial-to-serial connection frommy PC to the TV using Windows' telnet app, but didn't have any luck. That's what I get for half-hearted attempts ...
