Most spam emails are not even remotely legit looking. Typo's everywhere, bad grammars, mousing over links shows "hacker urls", etc.

I don't answer calls from suspicious looking numbers that I don't recognize. Problem solved.

I get a ton of calls from "card services." It is amusing that most of the time they're telling me it's about my MasterCard account, and I only have one Visa card. I also love the calls I get purportedly from Apple telling me that by remote monitoring they have determined my Apple computer is infected with a virus. I've never owned an Apple computer in my life.

I get a lot of spam calls but I just ignore them and don’t answer. Most of them come up on caller ID as “potential spam”.

The supposedly "IRS" calls me a lot also, they say if I don't call back immediately the feds are coming to arrest me :( I'm still waiting :D

I bought gift cards at Walmart to bail my nephew out of jail.

I get them constantly and I can't use my phone blocker app because of work I'm having done on the house. Need to be able to see every call that comes in. Those messages must scare the living daylights out of people. People that don't ask themselves why the IRS is doing such a strange thing.

For the record, they certainly have in the past, but only when they're trying to get you to spend more money overall -- along the lines of "add Showtime for a discounted rate," not the "save money on your existing package" call described in the original post.
