Are HR20s still supplied as replacements?

I have a service call scheduled for Saturday morning to solve a guide data not downloading (920) problem. We've pretty much determined the cause is a problem with the HR20-700 receiver which will probably need replacing. Are some of these still available on service trucks or is my OTA capability going away with whatever replacement receiver is on the truck?

If they replace the HR20 with an HR21 or higher, you just need an AM21, which is an outboard OTA tuner module that adds the exact same functionality to the later model dvr's. I still have an HR20, and I have 2 HR22's mated with AM21's, works perfectly.

If they do as you say then the replacement is not equivalent in capability. Wonder if DirecTV will then supply an AM21?

If you complain loud enough they might. That's how most get them for free if they get them for free. If you already get your HD locals via satellite, you really don't have a leg to stand on. My DMA is not offered yet in HD, so if I want to watch the networks in HD, I have no choice. Even then, I bought both of mine.

I have seen a couple sent out as erps recently, for customers that had existing HR20s needing replacement

Didn't have to complain loud at all. Simply told them I wanted to continue to have OTA due to summer storms (which is plenty leg to stand on) and they offered to send one with no charge.

    Service call followup:

Won't need a replacement receiver or AM21 after all. Anthony, the service tech, an actual DirecTV employee, arrived exactly on time and he first swapped out the old 3 part LNB for a new single LNB about the size of a half dollar (remember those) and re-aimed the dish. Then he came inside and checked his work by running some diagnositcs available only to techs. After this work all conus transponders were above 95 and the spots for my area were that high, too. Problem solved. I'm happy as a clam.

So, I'm back in business thanks to Anthony's stellar work. ;)
