Same here. The promo ads come on in lieu of a screensaver if you leave it paused for a few minutes. There is no sound, just a promo for a movie or show. Not a big deal, as long as it stays that way. If they start playing videos with sound, that's a problem. When I pause the TV, I want silence. I'm either talking to my wife about what to watch or thinking about something other than the TV. It shouldn't be necessary to mute the sound or turn off the TV.

Tivo has started putting ads at the beginning of recorded shows - so I guess that is the new way of annoying users more ads

I don’t care what they show but sound is bad. No excuse for that as many like myself will use pause as mute as well.

And turning off your tv or anything of that nature is a non starter for me.

    2 questions:
    1. Do these ads come via the internet or the sat ?
    2. What type receiver do you have to have to get the ads ?
I have an HR24 that got a new version of software , 0xc25 this morning ?

    Thanks

I paused for long time periods yesterday several times on my C61K and never saw any of the motion/sound ads.

I don't want any ads, especially motion ones. It can make you think it is no longer paused.
I have disconnected my DVR from the Internet. For now that solves this crap.

For those who think it is not a big deal, you must work in marketing or something where annoying people with ads is good for your business.

For those who say to just turn the TV off, that is one of the most ridiculous things I have heard here.

Oh, and what do we get in return for those ads? A price increase!!

... probably a smaller one than you'd have seen without them.

And then when the motion starts up be concerned that your paused program somehow restarted without you.

There are many times when I pause TV and stay in the room. Usually when I am working on something else and don't want to miss the plot of the paused program. I want the image on my TV to pause. That's why I pressed the pause button. I didn't press the "please play an advertisement" button.

I hope this "feature" added by AT&T crashes and burn lest any other company thinks that interrupting a paused program on a paid service is a good idea.

Ironically! I have paused to write down or snap a photo of info from advertisers of regular commercials like phone # web addresses, etc, if I can't do that anymore they lose my business.

You raise an interesting point. Can we pause an 'ad on pause' ?

I assume pressing pause will resume the originally paused content. AT&T could be really mean and only unpause at the end of the pause filling commercial.

See, it could be worse. :)

I can see the call to a CSR now:

"When I pause my TV the pause doesn't pause, and when I press pause to pause it again, the show I want to pause comes back on and then it unpauses again so I pause it but the show comes back on. Please send me a new remote because my pause button doesn't work."

    I'm already paying enough.
But I would actually pay a bit more to bring back features I actually liked and used (like the playlist sort order sticking, a usable progress bar, etc. etc.) Pay more, get less. If I was not rural with no other choice besides Dish, I would dump this. Been a customer since 97.

It’s not a big deal to me because when I pause the tv it’s cause I don’t care or can’t pay attention to what’s on it in the first place so it doesn’t matter what it’s showing.

I agree, except for the sound. Half the time we pause it's to take a phone call or for some other reason we need quiet. When it starts we'll need to get into the habit of muting as well.
