Yes, the sound is a big deal. I would have to not only mute my TV as well, but also go to my phone to shut off the TV sound to my hearing aids. When I press the pause button, I want silence. I'm not a cord-cutter, but I could easily become one if they start playing ads with sound when I pause the DVR.

Not everyone watches tv the same way. I often watch a lot of live tv and will often pause while on the phone or doing something on my computer. When an ad comes up (especially a motion one) I looks like I have run out of buffer. Before someone says to press record or give some other workaround, I have been using a DVR before most people even knew they existed (I was an original Tivo beta tester before they were released to the public). Yes, I am set I'm my ways of how I want to use my DVR, and not how some millennial programmer thinks I want to do it. And that goes for all of the other features they arbitrarily removed/changed (for the worse).
