I just put one of my AVR setups back in service (Sony AVR) and I have an odd thing going on with Hulu. I thought Hulu put out at least 5.1 but all I get on that AVR is PCM. I thought I had screwed something up but I checked my other Sony AVR and I see the same thing. Only difference is the other AVR shows DD+ at first and then quickly switches to PCM. Can't be the AVRs if they both do the same thing. I get 5.1 on NF, AP, HBO Now, and Showtime on both ATVs and FTVs. What is wrong with Hulu or has it always been just PCM for audio?

I don't see problems with either AVR or any of my streaming devices. I need to know what other folks get for audio on Hulu.

Nope Hulu remains one of the only big streamers to still limit their audio to 2.0 PCM. Not sure why this late in the game.

Aww! That just about drove me nuts the other day. I thought I had screwed one of my AVRs. I spent a lot of time...doesn't matter, thanx for the info. Where did you find that info?

Somebody tell me why one of my Sony AVRs shows Hulu is putting out DD + for a brief time and then goes to PCM (the change is very noticeable), I don't see how that happens. I haven't seen that on my other Sony AVR.

The receiver that shows 5.1 and then changes it possibly has the default input set to 5.1. So it shows and then as soon as it analyzes it, it then switches.
The other one might be just set to Auto detect.

I think DD 5.1 is very specific.
    DD includes 2.0, 2.1, 5.1, 6.1, 7.1 etc.

When I use Hulu, the first thing I see on my AVR display is DD+, not 5.1. My AVR shows 5.1 very clearly and lights a blue light. The blue light doesn't come on for DD+, but the display shows all the speakers are active just as 5.1 displays. DD+ displays for a brief period and then changes to PCM. I can hear the difference when it flips to PCM. If Hulu only puts out PCM, why do I see and hear DD+? Again, it's only for a very short time.
