That is correct ONLY if you do not receive locals from 99 or 103 (which is most people, actually), or if you have it connected to an SWM.

Well something is fishy, because I've got a couple clients who got R22's (to replace Tivo's) on a D* upgrade because ALL our locals on 72.5 are up in MPEG4, & (I SWORE anyway) they did NOT get BBC's on their R22's & their locals work fine. (& no, they do not have SWM dishes or switches)
I will personally check on this ASAP tonight, because this really bothers me now...

Robert - is it maybe possible that D* put OUR locals on a Ka bird x-ponder that does NOT require the BBC's to work properly; aren't some of the spot beams like this?

72.5 is of course a Ku location so no BBC is required. MPEG2/4 does not matter. The Spaceways are also at 99 and 103 and do not require BBCs. Check the Programming forum for the stickied thread at the top discussing current transponder maps.

Just checked & they absolutely do NOT have 'em....

Neither of them has the 72.5 dish up - that's why they got the upgrade... ;)

Then it sure sounds like OUR locals are on one of these birds then - guess we lucked out then... ;)

So then, a more correct way of putting this might be - IF your locals that your R22 picks up are on one of the Ka D birds, then you WILL need a BBC; otherwise you won't, right???

BBCs are not shipped with any receivers anymore unless it's a retail package.

Any programming from Spaceway 1 & 2 do not need BBCs, any programming from DirecTv 10/11 and presumably 12, must have BBCs (or a SWM).

Well, according to the OP, it was a retail pkg...

So, would it stand to reason, that if R22's did, even in some instances, require BBC's, this one should have come with them?

Well another thought - maybe D* is placing all the 72.5 migrated DMA's ONLY on the Spaceway birds, so that they do NOT have to deal with BBC's on those R22's, since that really is the only reason for needing BBC's on this model to begin with. ;) I haven't studies the x-ponder/bird chart, so I don't really know - I'm just telling you that our market most definitely does NOT need them.

Well, I took a cue from clb4g9 and tried to exchange the receiver at Circuit City and to my suprise they let me.

I took the new one home, hooked it up, and no issues... watching TV right now.

    Thanks for the input. :)

Did you get BBC's in the new box & if so, are you using them?

Be prepared to pay the non return fee on that box that went back to CC.
