They have cut the operating budgets at there stations. Replaced good people with much less expensive ones. Split apart the newspaper operation from broadcast and put all the debt on broadcast. Not invested in updating there properties and are reaping what they have sown. Now they are sitting in the park demanding a share of the pie they did not earn. Belo is a disgrace to the broadcast industry.

Just fixed up my OTA so that I can record WFAA here in Dallas if we do lose it for a time. Just need to make sure to remember to update recordings if it comes to that. Can't have the wife missing Dancing with the Stars.

So, if the channel goes dark Tuesday, can I cancel DirecTV for failing in it's contract? I'd love to have some negotiation power for what's going on here.

    Wash, Rinse, Repeat ad nauseum.....

Earlier this year it was Raycom and my CBS affiliate, this affects my NBC Affiliate, I guess Cox is next in the cycle, then probably Bahakel to get all my main network affiliates??

You contract does not guarantee any specific channel. In fact, the contract you signed specificaly states that channels can come and go. They haven't failed you in the contract, so losing these (or any other) channels doesn't get you out of your contract.

This dispute between Belo & DirecTV has me wondering if DirecTV still allows subscribers to opt out of locals, and save a couple of bucks a month?

I know Dish used to allow this until a year or two ago. Neither provider offers subchannels in most markets. So some subscribers end up putting up an OTA antenna, anyway, to get the missing locals they want.

You cannot opt out. Those who qualify for grandfathering may be able to take the $3 discount.

No. Because the antenna uses the same frequency as SWM, that would not be advisable. Your best bet would be to run the antenna directly to your AM21.

OTA doesn't overlap SWM; it overlaps DECA and will probably get you in trouble with the neighbors who use OTA.
    Always good advice.

    Huh?

How is the poster's attempt to use diplexing for OTA risking trouble with his neighbors use of OTA reception?

The DECA signal (550 MHz +/-) could be radiated by the OTA antenna. If there are local stations in this frequency range there might be interference to neighbors.

Fox/Newscorp deal settled! Now hopefully they reach an agreement with Belo.

I'm watching KTVK/3 evening news here in Phoenix and they just showed a call DirecTV and tell them what you want to see because Midnight is coming fast commercial followed by a we now have TWO news helicopters bringing you twice as much coverage commercial. Well now we know what they need the extra money from DirecTV for.

Here's my take. Let them spatter and have Direct TV just allow us access to our regional (in my case LA feed) for that network. No competition clause required as they didn't care about that portion of their marketshare.

I'm sure some lawyer will have some mumboeese about that idea but basically it seems these smaller LiL could be forced into line easily . If they can't agree to reasonable terms the local subscribers get LA or NY or whatever the central zone network HD equiv is. Done.

I changed all my SL's for our Belo/ABC station to my STB's with AM21's on them. Frankly no loss to me, just using a bit more disc space and Nomad can't be use to transcode those recordings.

I can live without channel 3, but it will be weird not having there news with a lot of good investigative reporting. I especially liked the Colorado City polygamist reports.
