Well even to receive OTA on D* receivers, they need to be activated on an account... so you're paying something.

Not out yet, and the HR20 Pro never got released. Don't hold your breath on the HR21 Pro...

Most newer TVs have digital tuners built in, so no OTA on the HR21 is not that big of a deal. Obviously you won't be able to record the OTA's, but for people who only use OTA as a backup during rain fade, they can just use the TV's built in tuner.

There's always " that guy " who will say something like that......

What about recording PBS in hi def ? What about the other non major networks in HD like the CW ? The non major channels cant be recorded on the pvr because of this " feature " that you think is " no big deal "

Even if you get your locals on mpeg4 its still a problem - leave it to DTV to screw it up

Did you read my post? I said it would not be a big deal for people who only needed a backup during rain fade. Is it really necessary to record every program on TV? Less than 10% of anything I watch on TV is recorded, so I know it's possible. I've had my HR20 since March and have never recorded an OTA program. See, no big deal.

My question is whether the hard drive is quiet? On the Hr20-700s I have, you can here them chirping away. It's quite annoying at night.

You should get those units checked or replaced. My HR20-700 is over 6 months old and I don't hear a peep out of it.

My HR21 sits about 2 feet away from my ears when I'm at my computer, and I have never noticed any noise from it. It's been practically as quiet as the H20 that used to be there.

It has the Same 320GB sized drive like the HR20-100
IMHO the HR21 is just a Black stripped down version of the HR20-100

Less than 10% of what you watch is recorded.....you haven't recorded anything OTA yet.

Somehow the second statement doesn't surprise me when you make the first.

Obviously, not a person who can tell others how to use a DVR...

No OTA is a major downgrade.

If DirecTV sent all my local HD's in MPEG4, no big deal.

But they don't and they never will.

It depends on the individual. I really don't care about OTA but there are many in this community that do. Some customers want the look so the advantage of the HR21 is in the eye of the beholder.

Well, there was the post where Earl said it was unlikely they would do all the subchannels.....

Given the FACT that even my cable company doesn't do all the digital locals, I have real non-belief that DirecTV will do them all.

    The only hardware difference(s) are:

    HR21:
    No OTA
    2 Port Ethernet Switch

Other than that, it is an HR20
