Having various issues with my HR34/700. Before calling ATT and trying to get a new Genie, wanted some recommendations on which model to beg for? Been past two years easy with this one and I have the maintenance plan, so not worrying about the replacement. Just want the best and reliable if possible.

HS-17--However you will need to replace any HD or HRDVRS you may have with Mini's --If that is an Issue --Then your Choice is a HR- 54 and you can keep everything else you have.

Depends on your needs. If you don't need 4K service a HR44 will do. It has a 1 TB hard drive. It can be connected to a TV and will work with clients, receivers and DVRs. If you need 4K service you'll need either a HR54 or a HS17. The HR54 has a 1 TB hard drive. It can be connected to a TV and will work with clients, receivers and DVRs. It works with 1 4K stream at once. The HS17 has a 2 TB hard drive. It is a headless server. It cannot be connected to a TV and only works with clients. It works with 2 4K streams at once. Both the HR54 and HS17 need a C61K-700 client for 4K service.

This isn't particularly forward thinking. Shoot for the moon!

Not knowing if the thread starter has a 4K TV or will be getting one soon I gave him "all' his options. It's up to him which model Genie is best for him.

He won't be given a choice between HR44 and HR54, so there's no point in telling him what to ask for. They will replace the HR34, that's all he should care about. If he wants 4K service he needs to tell them that so they will give him 4K capable equipment (including swapping out one or more clients)

To be honest. Just call and say it won’t power on. They will send you either a 44/54 to replace it and poof speed

The question was what receiver "to beg for". The HR44 wouldn't be the logical choice in any event.

I thought they were replacing HR34s for free upon request? If he calls says I have an HR34 and it sucks I want something better maybe he's gets a Genie 2 for free. If they won't do anything he can wait a week then call back and try the "it won't power on" line.

They may I have no clue to be honest. But I believe you are right and that was the process in the past. Been along time since we saw someone show up here with a 34 lol

What they do now for someone with a non-working HR34 is to replace it with an HR44. The customer only gets an HR54 if the warehouse happens to be out of HR44s.

For those with a working HR34 they temporarily had an offer to upgrade to a HR44 with no agreement when they first rolled out the Modern GUI & Mobile DVR.

Now if you "upgrade" with a working HR34 there is a 12-month commitment. The only way to ensure you get a HR54 is to get a C61K at the same time of the upgrade (which would require a 24-month commitment if they send a tech out.) Any upgrade to a HS17 requires a 24-month agreement since it comes with a tech install by default.

Yup So I would just go with what I said initially Call up, tell them it is dead, and get a 44/54 for replacement with no contract :)

Yup, that's what I would do. Nothing wrong with the 44s if you have no need for 4K.
