The guy I talked to at retention listened to the whole story and said I did nothing wrong. I told him the same thing I posted in the OP. I only had until today to activate the card and the first CSR from the PP told me he was gonna transfer me to ACT so I could save the cost of a new card. I just reread my OP and I didn't include that, I should have. My bad. That was the only good thing he did.

Retention is pretty good too. They usually transfer me to Case Management if they can't do a quick fix. I think what happened to the PP (I got this info from a CM agent) is that the Case Management dept. took all the best PP CSRs and are using them as CM agents. The CM group is kinda new and the level of expertise there is commendable.

The system is set up such that I have usually talked to several other departments first and have everything in the 'dun deal' stage, and then ACT mung's up the situation. Be nice to have them involved sooner, if what I am trying to do is gonna get squelched in the ACT department, it gets very frustrating wasting 45 minutes to an hour talking to 3 other departments first and THEN having the ACT veto the arrangements. I've been through that more than once. Last occurrence clients wound up on Dish.

And I have had ACT work for me, and work well, but when it doesn't, it gets really upsetting.

    Glad your situation concluded well.

Thanx, Saturday night I thought I'd never get the 500 working. I've had a few hiccups with the ACT, but for the most part all I use them for is activation or deactivation or to determine if an HR is leased or owned. For what I use them for, they are fine.

Just put the 2TB EARX in the 500 and it's working well. My whole point in starting this thread was if you buy an HR on eBay and it hasn't been wiped, you'll run into a situation such as I just went thru. Put simply, if a seller in CA sends a buyer in NJ an HR without wiping the thing clean, the HR is not gonna know it's in NJ and you'll go thru what I just did.

I dont think the DVR's know or care where they are until activated/authorized. More than likely it was a setting related to dish type that did not match from seller to buyer, or an issue where it was not properly de-authorized from the previous owners account. Like if it went from an SL3 setup to an SL5 setup, or vice versa, since IIRC the stacking plans are not the same.

Seems like they don't really care that much about how the dish settings are set up as long as they know there's a SWM attached. I checked a couple other HRs and they had different dish settings and were working properly. After downloading new software several times, the dish setting came up properly. One of these days, I'll have to go thru all the dish settings and set them properly. Right now, I'm just happy it's running properly. BTW, this time, when I put the 2TB drive in the 500, the SLs stayed with the 2TB drive. Last time I did that, I lost all the SLs. Odd.

Funny that I also bought a owned HR24 on eBay but its not activated yet, it's just sitting there on the original box with no access card, I might either sell it or use as a back up if any of my current receivers ever fail, as every room in the house has a TV with a receiver.
