So this game is supposedly on the big ten network. Why isn't it on directv?
It's not on the Big Ten Network schedule here: http://btn.com/shows/
It is on BTN.com not the tv channels.
Highlights from the radford psu game were just shown on the big ten network. Highlights we're in hd. But The logo on the highlights said big ten student u. Did a quick search and looks like it is online only for a fee. Ugh.
Yes, that is how the extra games work early in the season when there are too many for BTN to carry.
If it was Student U, those are often on 610 sometime during the week on a delay basis. Search the guide.
What about the big ten alternates that directv carries? If memory serves me correctly, there are enough alternates for four games at once. Stagger the start times between 7 and 9 and that's eight big ten games in one night. Cable would get regional coverage the same way as for football.
The overflow channels are only for football.
Q: Why doesn’t BTN have “Extra Football Game Channels” for basketball?
A: The “Extra Football Game Channels” are only available to us during the 13 football Saturdays of the season because of capacity issues with our cable and satellite providers. The non-conference basketball season overlaps with dozens of other sporting events, including NHL, NBA and other regional football and basketball games. Therefore, our cable and satellite partners are unable to offer this space to us, even though our Extra Football Game Channels may still continue to appear on your channel guide.
During the conference portion of the basketball season, the Big Ten schedules games in such a way where there is no need for “Extra Football Game Channels.”
They have used them in the past for other sport conflicts like hockey/football but they were all on weekends.
