I watch lots on PBS, channel 17 in Buffalo. Lately it looks ugly. Are they overcompressing, or is my antenna in need of re-aiming? Anyone else share my gripe? All other channels are crystal clear. Thx!

Choose Info, move up to the banner and scroll over to Audio / Video and see what it shows for the current resolution.

Are you watching it via satellite, or via OTA?

Eastern Carolina had their PBS stations pulled the beginning of July. DirecTV claims that the issue was a failure of the local PBS station to deliver an adequate signal. PBS claimed that DirecTV was a bunch of doody heads.

It's a little more complicated than that. DirecTV switched to using the actual local feeds for UNC's stations instead of remaps of WUNC Raleigh or WUNL Greensboro. (They've been doing this for a bunch of statewide PBS networks where they previously only carried one or two feeds and remapped it for the rest of the state, it's probably EAS related since only the local feeds have the EAS alerts for their coverage area)

The Norfolk market's UNC feed is WUND Edenton, who's signal is very weak where the local receive facility for the market is located. WUND is still in test mode though, so they're probably working on it.

What's odd is u can still watch UNC PBS 2 via the D* app ... I was playing with the app and remembered this thread and was shocked it was still there .

Hope D* is not reading this lol

Never mind I see PBS 2 is back on D* now

WNED (Buffalo, PBS 17) is one of the worst PBS stations in the nation. You may be better off without it :)

Still having ugly pixelation/motion distortion on much WNED-17 programming through Directv. Several times I've even switched over to my $29 indoor antenna for a quick comparison, and the cheap antenna is way way WAY better looking. Crystal clear and no pixelating. What gives? My signal strength is all mid-80's or better, except for Transponder 4 which is low 70's. (Not sure why that one is always low....)

There's almost certainly a problem with the station's feed to DirecTV, or at DirectV's Local Receive Facility. Contact the station engineer, he will probably get it fixed.

Which satellite are you looking at for those signals? Buffalo's locals are all on 103s TPNs 21 and 22.
    103s TPN 21:
    1010 - WGRZ
    1020 - WIVB
    1030 - WKBW
    1040 - WUTV
    1050 - WNED
    1060 - WNLO

103s TPN 22: (Shared with Rochester and Syracuse)
    1010 - WROC
    1020 - WHEC
    1030 - WNYO
    1040 - WBBZ
    1050 - WSTM
    1060 - WTVH

Like texasbrit said, your best bet would be trying to get in touch with WNED's engineering/operations department. Luckily, their direct e-mail is also listed as the closed captioning contact in their FCC profile.

Thx guys. I'm getting signal strength 95 and 96 on those two transponders. So it must be between the broadcaster and Directv.

Is there any reason to believe it would look better on Directv NOW ??

How about on Dish Network? I'm that frustrated. It also wouldn't suck to get my bill back under $100 for a couple years, anyway.

DirecTV Now doesn't have any PBS stations, and for Buffalo they only have the big 4.

Did you try e-mailing the contact I on their FCC profile that I linked to? Since it's a holiday weekend, you might want to wait until Tuesday to try it.

I just tried to email Wendy at Ch17, but their stupid email server won't accept mail from a gmail.com address? Lame.

I just used that contact form, thank you. We'll see what they say.....
Well, I got impatient and scheduled Dish install for next Monday. Not 100% sure what to expect, but I know my bill will be at least $50 cheaper for 2 years.
