I'm not 100% sure on this or I would have put it in the issues thread...

I had 1 show recording and I was watching a recording, shouldn't the other tuner have been buffering?

    Specifics:

    - Before I started watching my recording I had ESPN2HD on live TV so that I could drop out and backup if/when it happened.
    - Watching recording of Busch Race from earlier today.
    - Recording "Masters Of Science Fiction" on one tuner.
    - My dad calls to tell me Bonds just hit 755 so I stop my recording and go to live TV so I can backup and watch it, but there was no buffer on ESPN2HD.

Should there have been a buffer or not? I'm thinking there should have been, but maybe I'm confused, because the recording [Masters Of SciFi] shouldn't have counted as a buffer.

I thought the recording channel would have been the buffer.

Hmm, ok, I was under the impression that it wouldn't be the buffer.

Never had a chance to check it in the past, so I learned something new tonight. :)

Maybe now I'll have to jump on the DLB bandwagon. LOL

I could certainly be wrong. It just seems to "fit" though. The one recording would be -how do i say- the active channel or main tuner. The other wouldn't be doing anything.
That's how I see it. Someone will come along and correct me shortly if i'm wrong.

Wait a second, a thought just occurred to me...

If the recording [taking place on the 2nd tuner] is the buffer how is it that when I went to ESPN2HD Live it started to buffer?

But the recording wasn't being done on the active channel. The active channel was ESPN2HD.

It was supposed to be buffering. Lots of people complained about this on the HR20, and I believe it was corrected with a recent firmware update. Definitely after 0x168.

Then I guess I will add it to the issues thread.

On the last few software versions for the HR20, if a recording starts on the background channel, the last channel you were watching will buffer unless:

    1) you're watching a recording, and
    2) a recording begins on the background tuner WHILE you are watching the prior recording.

That's the one scenario I find that still erases the buffer on the HR20.

If the recording had started on the background tuner, or you tune from the recording channel to another prior to selecting a different recording from the playlist, then the buffer stays in tact on the HR20.

I know the buffer is preserved while watching live when a background recording begins on the HR21. I haven't tried other scenarios yet.
