I set up a timer for KXAS, OTA digital channel 5-1 (KXAS).

When the little clock started flashing I pressed info and it informed me that:

"the following DVR timer will execute within 5 minutes:
    261 KXAS
    08:00pm"

I was watching while 8:00 came and went and it stayed tuned to OTA 4-1.

    No timer fired.

    Bummer.

I've seen the wrong channel listed in the box before (actually many times), but that shouldn't have stopped your timer from recording.

Things on this front will get much better as soon as the next software release is sent.

Are there any known tricks to getting OTA timers to fire? Do you have to not be watching OTA at the time? I realize that being on the same channel paused, was perhaps testing a rough scenario, but my ReplayTV handles that just fine ;)

I asked the same question a few weeks ago and the timer didn't fire because you have to tune to a satellite channel if you plan on recording an OTA program. You only have one OTA tuner so you can't be watching one OTA station while trying to record another OTA station.

Are you saying that it won't change channels to record a program? That is unbelievably broken.

What if you are tuned to a satellite channel and two satellite timers fire off. Will one fail because it can't change the channel?

If that is by design it is a serious flaw. It needs to just warn you that a recording is about to stop and give you the opportunity to prevent the recording. Otherwise it should assume you don't care and switch channels to record the show you asked it to.

The 921 will change the channel to start the recording, except under a very limited set of circumtances that you're only going to have to worry about for a short time more.

For now, it's a good idea to make sure that you are not tuned to an OTA channel when an OTA timer is about to fire. It's also a good idea to make sure that when you turn the 921 off it's tuned to a satellite channel rather than an OTA channel.
