That software is very old, I would try:
Unplug the AC power to the client and leave it that way for at least an hour and then plug it back in. Looking for new software is one of the first things they do when you plug one in. Then , do not do anything to it as far as settings for 24 hours. After that, check your Software version, resolutions, etc. and see if you can check the 4k box.

Hmm. We are told it's mandatory on any 4k jobs we do. I guess it's just for future reference?

It will likely be needed when/if 4k gets more channels. For now it's not necessary. You do need a C61k client along with an HR54 or HS17 Genie.

Att tells all techs that reverse band is mandatory for both 4k and genie 2. I'm not gonna read that, honestly I don't really care we use all rb anyway.

A rb lnb may be mandatory on the install, but it's not for reception of 4k, not yet anyways.

Directv made installation of a reverse band LNB mandatory early on so that in the future when 4K programming actually begins using reverse band they won't need to go back and upgrade a bunch of LNBs for existing customers.

If a customer doesn't have a reverse band LNB however it won't impact the ability to watch 4K channels. And despite that mandatory notice there are some customers out there who have 4K but don't have a reverse band LNB - those who got set up with 4K in the early days before the reverse band LNBs were generally available, and those who use a legacy LNB and switches (due to too many tuners needed or being in an MDU sharing a dish with many others) that haven't upgraded to the legacy reverse band LNB yet.

Thank you all for your suggestions. They where able to get them authorized yesterday. The only problem I have now is that the fiber optic out does not work with my sennheiser headset. They worked great before the 4Kwas authorized. I use a convert to convert to analog. But, I only get a lot of static out of the head set. Thanks again to all. Charlie

You might want to try speaking your punctuation. Like how it is done with dictation.
E.g. 'I'm using speech to text period What have you done question mark'

Optical analog converters (2-channel) generally require the optical-out setting to be PCM, rather than Dolby.

Try changing the setting (if it's not on PCM) and see if the "static" goes away.
