I currently have a hr-24 and 2 h23 receivers and Whole Home service. I am planning on replacing one the receivers with a hr 34 hmc. If I keep the hr24 and replace one of the h23's with a hr34 can I specify from the hr24 or hr34 which hd dvr I want it to record on? Also, how will the h23 know which receiver to record to? Thanks for any help.

The HR24 will record anything on the HR24. The HR34 will recording anything on the HR34. Only the H23 will be able to tell something where to record.

Someone else can correct me, but I don't believe you can set a default recording device on the H23. You have to tell it each time where to record.

You can use the DIRECTV App (both phone & iPad) to specify which receiver to record to. Nothing like that is available on the receiver, though.

You can also use the web site to schedule recordings on any DVR in your system.

Slightly off-topic (but still in the same ballpark)...

Does the HR34 have the database limitations that all other HRx models had regarding the limitation to setup only 50 recordings?

I agree that in this age of HMC, there should be a way to determine which receiver a particular recording can go to when setting up a recording on the HR-34.

I assume you are talking about the series links for recordings. The HR34 has a limit of 100 Series Links. Other DVR's have a limit of 50 Series Links.
