For me, it was a combination of continual price hikes, terrible software (at least, compared to the Apple TV), and lack of compelling content. I get the networks OTA for free. I can get most everything I want to watch from Philo.

For a company that sends collection agencies after deadbeats, I still haven't received a refund of the $75 credit balance left on my account. I cancelled on Halloween...

Whether it's cutting the cord, or going from D* to Dish or cable, or the opposite order, the less savvy better halves are a very underrated part of the switch.

Not always better halves. I tried to get my dad to get a Tivo to save money on his cable bill, or switch to Directv when they had some deals, and he wouldn't do either. He was used to his crappy cable company DVR and didn't want to learn something new, plus he had a bunch of unwatched recordings saved on it. Not that this seemed to be a problem when they replaced the DVR 7 (yes SEVEN!) times within the first 18 months he got it because it was so buggy!

Not understanding the point you're trying to make.

Unfortunately you will need to call them to get it. When I cancelled I waited a month and when I didn’t receive anything or hear from them I called. They sent me my balance but be prepared for them to almost do anything to get you to resubscribe. This was almost two years ago so things might have changed but they literally got down to $5 per month for 12 months with all new equipment for 4 tvs. I thought the rep was going to cry when I said I wouldn’t resubscribe even if they paid me...LOL. BTW, I was a D subscriber for well over 20 years. I started with them before they were even called DirecTV and you had to buy all your equipment from the local “hifi” store and install it all yourself.

After checking with Directv for discounts I will be cancelling them next week. My billing period ends on January 6th. To not have issues like some have with being charged even after cancelling I plan on withdrawing my autopay just prior to calling them on either the 4th or 5th. January 6th is on a Sunday.

I would call that low cost, high profit. He's costing them nothing by keeping hardware for a long time.

Such a low cost, high profit customer that the agent "made absolutely no effort to keep my business." The computer algorithms must have just been confused.

I don't put any weight on the agent not offering anything. You can call Directv 100 times and get 100 different response for the same request.

You're being disingenuous, you might not like the offer you receive but that's all a csr does all day long is make offers.

No, I’m using common sense and years of experience as a Directv customer. I’m not just talking about just offers either. Customer service is beyond horrible anymore.

Keep on changing the subject. Your original statement was, " I would call that low cost, high profit. He's costing them nothing by keeping hardware for a long time" Why didn't they keep him/her? Do you really believe they didn't resell his programming or offer a lower cost programming package if one was even available? Maybe they didn't offer any credits, tough luck. I'm also shocked the Filipino front line staff making $.19 to the dollar don't know everything, maybe try a different department?

I stayed with Directv. I do not remember the exact offer but it was better than the standard one for new customers and pretty close to what Directv was offering.

The information that "scores" customers might not have been transitioned over from Directv's computer system to the AT&T computer system they are using for customers who have been transitioned to AT&T billing. That's the kind of stuff that falls through the cracks when you do a major system conversion, because they concentrate on getting the stuff they HAVE to have (like customer address, equipment list, packages etc.) and the stuff they want but don't have to have is always on the "to do" list but doesn't always leave that list.

We don't have enough information to give an accurate guess. Based on what was posted here one can assume that the customer was "low cost, high profit" but we don't have access to the customer's account history or credit rating. (And for accounts transitioned to AT&T the CSR may not have full access to that history.)

I just canceled after about 17 years with DTV. We keep getting different answers with the recovery (which is why I came here searching). One rep says we will get an email with instructions (never came) another rep says we should have got something in the mail (never came) they say they will be charging me for the returns if they don't have them by Jan 5th. Called 5 times to CSR to get the return details. Very frustrating......

Reason I cancelled is I am sick of all the Misc fee's that I feel shouldn't be charges, like Regional sports fee, DVR fee, Advanced DVR fee, HD fee and top that onto the recent price increases I finally hit my breaking point with them.

Got a couple tivo bolts and cable installed, I am paying less for my cable and internet combined(no promo) than my direct tv alone was costing me. picture quality is terrible on cable, but I just remind myself of how much less it costs.

Have you tried streaming? Cable is one of my options if I decide to drop D*. I'd use it just for sports, the PQ can't be much worse than what we have. Aside from sports I stream almost everything and have no issues with PQ.
