101 currently appears on my channels able to be locked list (and I locked it as a test). 9901 (129 test) can also be locked and hidden, 9902 (61.5 test) doesn't show up on my locks list at the moment. (ViP-622, ViP-211 & DP-501)

I noticed 101 and the 9901-9903 channels missing from the locks list on my receivers in the past. Having those channels unlocked and unhidden helps DISH if you have trouble with your receiver. (Their basic instructions to tune to channel 101 to see if you can see a channel from 119 do not work if you have locked out the channel.)

hmmmmm, ya know I didn't know the ability to lock and hide channels was some kind of god given right or some such thing, at least you'd think that's what were talking about here based on the reaction. So i'd have to say my reaction is something akin to that SNL skit on weekend update titled "REALLY?!? REALLY!?!"

Where did I say it was a god given right. All I wanted to do was point out the fact that E* is now preventing subs from blocking out certian channels that we have been able to lock in the past. Why is this such a big deal?

101 was never available to lockout on the 622/722 so this is not new.

I dont know why it bothers me so much but it does and this block the lock has potential abuse written all over it. SO that is why it is a big deal to me and why I have chosen to write about it.

Why is me writting about it such a big deal.

It has always been available to lock out on the 625's and my other recievers a couple of 510's and a 301. So for those of us who do not have a 622/722 it is new.

I said you were reacting like someone was taking away one of your god-given rights, acting like this was some big deal. When i'd have to say it really ranks way up there among things that really are NBD. After all lets be honest here blocking and hiding channels is a nice little extra feature that Dish offers for those who are so inclined, it's not like they even ever had to offer it, the fact that they do is just a nice bonus. Now there's one less channel you can block, oh dear now you can see channel 101 in your guide, how awful! :sure: Really I have a hard time figuring out why anyone would really give a FF, but i'm sure you'll try to explain to me how this is going to lead to the sky falling and dogs & cats living together......

No all I am going to say is what I have been saying all along we used to be able to lock and now we can not and this could lead to other channels being unlockable. Not the end of the world or the sky falling or dogs and cats living together. Nothing like that.

I think you should move to another provider if this is that important to you. That is the beauty of choice.

As I have stated previously overall I am happy with E* and this is really my first complaint. I am bothered by them blocking the lock feature.

As I noted in my post, the "block the lock" feature has come and gone on the ViP receivers. Perhaps some channel encoding changed but the channel CAN be locked out at the moment. Perhaps DISH will change something else and you'll get the ability to block 101 on your 625 again.

As far as the conspiracy theories and panic over other unblockable channels worry about it if they do it. It seems that you're worrying over something DISH has not done and possibly even accusing DISH of something they have no intent of doing.

Channel 101 and 9901-9903 are important channels needed to debug people's reception problems. I would not be surprised to see them in an unblockable state. If you see any other channels as unblockable let us know and we'll join in the annoyance. Until then, I would not expect much support. :)

Nah it's cool I hope nothing ever does come of it, its just seeing the channel in my guide threw me because I allways had it locked.

Could it be possible that you may have had a very brief power outage?

I don't even use the channel lock features... but I know they are popular with some.

If I had kids, I'd probably lock out the adult channels... but other than that, it seems more trouble than worth to set that up.

I much prefer the Favorites lists where instead of blocking channels I actively choose the channels I want to watch. I don't see most of the Dish channels as a result.

James also brings up a great point, in that if channel 101 is particularly one you want to lockout, I think that's probably a bad idea... since it not only is informative but is where they send you to do some testing when you call in with a problem... so if you had that locked out, you'd have a situation on your hands to get to a point where they could help you.

Frankly, I see the whole channel locks as a feature they don't have to offer anyway... so if they took it away entirely, I'm not sure there would be reason to complain... much less about a handful of specific channels.

As for the conspiracy theory that this just the first domino to fall... truth be told, no need to have a conspiracy. IF a channel wanted to pay Dish to be un-lockable, I'm sure that would happen tomorrow as long as it wasn't one of the Adult-themed channels. Heck, Dish already has some of the shopping channels paying for a mapdown to be on a lower number.

In the grand scheme of things, as a long-time Dish customer that is happy with everything else about his service... if this truly is your only complaint, then that ought to be a really positive thing!

No power outages but for giggles I did a reboot but it is still unlockable.

Stewart I am overall happy with E*, I did not think this topic would be a big deal, I was just a littlle PO'd by them taking this ability away and am worried that it is going to spread to other channels. I am how ever a realist and if the bean counters at E* see this as a revenue maker then I am sure it will spread. Que sera sera.

I use the channel lockouts alot myself. Mainly to remove the SD version of my HD channels and to just clean up the guide of channels I get, but will never watch. MAVHD, NBA, NHL channels mainly. I never even paid attention to channel 101. USA Network is the lowest Network/Broadcasting channel at 105 and I never go below that. Not that worried about a FYI channel, that is probably very useful for newbies to Dish on learning features.

I've locked all of the shopping channels on my receivers. No infomercials for me ... when I guide search their channels have ZERO chance of pulling me in. Some may lock out the PPV preview channels, etc.

There may also come up a contract issue where someone refuses carriage if their channel can be locked out. Now that DISH has proven that they have the technology will some savy channel provider make that demand? :D

BTW: I keep 101 unlocked so I can watch Charlie Chats and Tech Forums ... then no one else has to! :)

On top of everything else in this thread, James is, by far, right.

If you do call in with a Signal Loss issue, they will have you to go ch101, to include 9900, 9901 and others, to check and see if you are receiving the signal from the provided satellites. So even if you (which it seems to only be affecting you) were able to lock it, if you were to call in with an issue that would hinder the agent on the phone, resulting in a long phone call, not to mention either a technician or receiver being RA'd for no reason, as well as possible charges.

Other than that, this thread seems to be pointless.

Well, I can't lock it out from my 625 either. It must be a new software version. To be honest, until the OP brought it up, I probably would never have noticed... even though it's likely I had 101 blocked before.

You have to pick your battles. This one is pretty much a non-issue (for me).
