I use the lock-out feature extensively. I can't lock out Ch. 101 on my 622 "All Subscription" list but it's not a big deal to me since I can avoid it on the favorites menu. However, i also can't lock out Ch. 9900 which is the "Congratulations, You Have A DISH 500!" channel.* That is annoying, especially since I don't even have a DISH 500. :sure:
*aka the "What's New On DISH 500?" channel.
There's something you don't read every day.
It appears that this issue is limited to the OP's 625, as others with different models had no problem finding 101 in the lock out menu.
Does anyone else with a 625 have the same problem? Seeing how other models can lock 101 tells me it's not an action on E* part to force the channel on anyone. It's more likely a software glitch with the OP's 625.
I cannot lock out 101 on either of my 622's either.
I sure don't see 101 on either my 722 or 211k.
I just thought of something: 101 is the default channel that receivers go to if you are tuned to a channel that gets shut off (i.e. free preview channels at the end of the preview). If you lock 101 your receiver will have nowhere to default. It does not happen often (being tuned to a channel at the point where it shuts off), but a default channel needs to be there. 101 is the natural choice. It usually shows instructional videos on the operation of your receiver.
why are you sweating this "little stuff" thing?
At the end of the day, does it really make a difference?
I can't even believe this thread hasn't been locked yet.
It is pretty calm ... the thread will fade on it's own.
Man, you would think someone took away his VOOM channels.
Anyway, count me in the "Use Favorites Instead" camp. Frankly, I WANT to see everything I subscribe to and everything DISH offers. As long as they don't take away the ability to see at a glance what I subscribe to in the guide, I'm happy.
Same here. I guess I was aware that channels could be locked out, but have never even looked into how. Why bother if you don't have kids? If you don't want to see it, just set up a Favorites list that doesn't include it. Mine leaves out that one and other promo channels, all the shopping, kids, news, and religious channels, PPV, weather subchannels and most women's channels, plus the SD versions of anything that's also in HD.
My complaint is that it isn't easier to add channels to a favorites list. I would like a remote button that I could press when viewing a channel to add it to a particular list, instead of noting the channel number, go to the list, edit list, scroll down to that channel, add, save, etc. Either that, or the ability to preview a channel while list editing to decide if you subscribe to it and if it has content that interests you.
Agreed - it should be easier to add a channel to a "favorites" list than it is. Something like a point and click .
Perhaps they could program the FWD button to add a channel to your favorites when you press it with the channel hilited on the guide - remove it with the Back button in the guide.
Your post refers to favorites in the singular, but this gets harder if you assume there are two - His & Hers. If you are using All Sub or All Channel at the moment, which list would be the "particular" list? If you have His in effect, how are you seeing a channel that isn't already in your list to hit a button to Add?
Not that I don't share your "should be easier to add", but if Jim5506's Fwd button with All Channel selected just silently added a channel to whatever user changeable list was last selected, it could produce CSR calls about "channels appearing in my favorites list that I didn't add". So the Fwd would have to ask IF or WHICH list, at a minimum.
One would have a similar problem with deletion ... there needs to be a confirmation before channels disappear from the lineup.
I use "All channels" as my favorites list with lock and hide to get rid of the channels I don't subscribe to. Yes, I know there is an "All Sub" list ... there is also a "HD Only" list ... I'd like the option of turning off the "predetermined" lists I don't use but the closest I can come is being able to lock out the unsubscribed/unwanted channels.
As channel 101 is where the receivers are programmed to tune when the remote is being slept on, it needs to be there. Support also needs to be able to refer subscribers there for technical help.
The excuse about 101 being the default is just an excuse. Previously when 101 was locked the default channel was 105, I remeber when the ny/la locals went away when I went to sleep I left it on KNBC, when I woke up my receiver was tuned to 105 USA net. After re rereading the thread my opinion has not changed I am still bothered by this. All and all E* is still a great company. I am just disappointed that they have done this.
BTW I am a big user of the favs, I have them set up in categories. Locals, movies music and everything else in a fav I call cable chs. BUt at least once a week I go through the all channel guide just to see if any thing new was added or maybe something taken away. Thats how i realized they made 101 and 9900 unlockable.
Sorry if this thread bothers any one It was supposed to be a discussion about loseing an ability that we had before. Most people do not seem to care and that is fine, dont read the thread there is an ignore feature you can use. Thanks to the few people who offered an insightful comment or a report that you too could not lock the channels mentioned. You folks were few and far between.
Of course everyone is entitled to an opinion, and there'd be no point in having a discussion if everyone agreed, right? I know any time I post I expect some people to disagree. I think that's fine as long as no one makes it personal.
I've never used the locks at all... but I know they are a big feature to some. It just wouldn't bother me at all, even if I used locks, if channel 101 couldn't be locked. It's not offensive (the main reason why I'd consider locking a channel).
Actually, I even have 101 in my favorites because I watch the Charlie/Tech Chats when I can.
I refer to "A" favorites list (INdefinite article), not "THE" favorities list (definite article), implying more than one.
I fully agree with your assessment of Jim5506's suggestion, but "push [some button that is otherwise not used in guide view] to add current channel to a favorites list" followed by "scroll down and hit Enter to pick favorites list you want to add it to" doesn't seem too hard.
