wow!!! This guy needs to be put on the Homeland Security watch list !!!
It doesn't seem too hard to let someone pick a Favorites entry from a list to Add or Delete a channel from the Guide.
Just to return to topic, the realist in me make me think it is more likely that Ch 101 will again be lockable first.
i.e. don't expect any changes from what we type here!
One can hope BTW I have a 508 in the kids room and it still has 101 locked.
I have seen this thread for a week now and I didn’t care to read it until today.
Last night I turn on the tv a there was a message saying something like your home channel is lock the message was intermittent so I believe my remote was somehow trapped in the sofa trying to change to dish home, but it wasn’t . I couldn’t make the message disappear. So I have to reboot. Somehow I believe this have to with the locked feature. I use the all channel list with channels I don’t like, adults, news, sports, shopping and music channels locked. I don’t use favorites because if I press the guide to many times it gets me to all channels. I don’t like to browse channels that I don’t care about. To me the ability to lock any channel I want is very important, if dish doesn't understand that, they may lose a customer.
about your first sentence???? Re your last sentence, I guess "very important" can mean many different things depending on the individual's priorities.
What I meant is that I saw the title of the thread last week & I didn't care to read it until I had a similar problem.
Your are right maybe the lock feature is not that important but I being using it for years, I will be dissapointed if they change it or disable it.
Both my 722 receivers(and a replaced 722), plus my parents SD DVR change to Channel 101 without us changing the channel. Twice now a recording has stopped and changed to Channel 101.
After the 1st time it changed during a recording I called to complain. I was told to disable the inactivity timer. I have not called on this problem again.
Is this a problem for you too?
This happened to me this past Wednesday as I was watching and recording ESPN's telecast of the final of the UEFA Champions League (Barcelona vs. Manchester United).
I agree with you, in principle. One should have the ability to lock out any channel one doesn't want.
But shouldn't you wait until your doomsday scenario spools out before getting so upset?
This was never a problem for me my 625 has never missed a recording or anything like that.
It all begins somewhere, and once it starts it is almost impossible to stop.
Tell me about it!
Another way to look at this is that the channel-lock feature is a bonus that Dish doesn't have to provide anyway... and since the easiest workaround is to create a Favorites list, I'm not sure what there is to complain about really.
Yeah, that's what I use. A Favorites list sorta takes away any Dish-imposed listings and lets me set up one the way I like it.
Still though - and in all fairness - I do see cj's point.
It's not that I don't see his point... as much as it is:
A. It doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me.
B. It's a modification to a "bonus" feature that isn't required for otherwise use of the equipment.. and in fact the inability to lock out a channel doesn't "force" you to watch it at all. Just don't watch it
It's still his point, and he's entitled to it ... disapprovals notwithstanding.
Are you sure about that, I am pretty sure that the ability to lock channels is required as part of the so called parental controls.
Absolutely true... but once posted in a public forum for discussion, everyone else is entitled to post disagreement and questions.
Why else post in a forum?
Hmm... You might have a point... then again, locking channels based on content and ratings might be a different feature than locking a specific channel regardless of ratings/content.
Get serious. He has a problem and a percieved complaint, and his conclusion that Dish is being arbitrary - while not shared by all - is valid.
Isn't the exchange of opinion without ridicule what this site is all about?
