    From The Hollywood Reporter:

"Carl Reiner, the quintessential straight man for Sid Caesar and Mel Brooks who based the beloved sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show on his own life and jump-started Steve Martin’s big-screen career, has died...."

As one who remembers watching Sid Caesar's early TV shows where Reiner worked along with Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, Larry Gelbart, Neil Simon, Howard Morris, Imogene Coca and others, Reiner's death from natural causes at age 98 represents a sad moment for the TV world. I'm sure it's more a time of heartbreak for his son Rob Reiner.

He was one of those guys you'd see on TV a couple years ago who never seemed near as old as he really was.

(Roger Corman and Stan Lee seemed like that, too.)

One of the best episodes of Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee was one featuring Carl Reiner and Mel Brooks. The three had dinner at Carl Reiner's house eating off TV trays while watching TV. Watching those two discussing their careers was incredible. Still on Netflix.
