Thanks for this. How do I procure one of these puppies?
Easy - call them. If you qualify for one they will send it to you quickly.
And that's why people will continue to cut the cord. Granted, I agree, and there needs to be some meeting of the minds. But, CBS sees the writing on the wall, and I think, at this point, they honestly don't care if DirecTV agrees or not. More people who want to watch their content and can't on DirecTV will switch over to CBS All Access and thus, CBS makes more money per sub than they probably would from DirecTV. I don't think DirecTV can win this.
Folks these wars are just beginning. DirecTV signs with CBS it just opens the flood gates for other content owners to demand more money from them when their turn is up. If DirecTV doesn't sign, then users will start cutting the cord at an accelerated speed, which is fine for CBS because they get more subs for their streaming service.
What qualifies for one of these? Couldn't they tell me, well you have Locast, that should be sufficient?
Do you need an outdoor antenna or is an indoor antenna enough?
You need to be in a market with a disputed OTA channel AND you must have an HR-44 or an HR54.
It comes with a decent indoor antenna. As for whether that's enough for you, that depends on how far you are from your market's towers as well as a number of factors impacting their signal strength.
I would view Locast as a last resort kind of thing. If you can get an LCC and it works for you, the channels you can receive will be integrated into your current guide.
If you have lost a station or stations because of these disputes you'll qualify for a LCC. The LCC is free of charge and does not start a new commitment or fees. It comes with the following...Winegard Antenna...USB Cable...Coax Cable...Antenna Power Adapter...Local Channel Connector...LCC Power Adaptor...Quick Start Guide. Your location and distance from the broadcast location will determine what is the best antenna to use.
Here's a very rough guide for you: https://signalstrength.directv.com/
If you can get 4 or more bars at your zip code and stick the free antenna in a window, you may be able to get those stations with the antenna they send you.
For stations at your zip code with 3 bars or less, you may need to use your own better antenna if you want those stations.
As always with this stuff, YMMV.
Thanks everyone for the info on the LCC. I'll give them a call and get one (I have an HR-54). Just looking for a way to watch / record CBS.
What if I have a Genie 2? I see a OTA in the Menu set up.
It doesn't work with an HS-17.
Sounds like they swapped out CBS with Tegna -- both WUSA & KFMB are their stations.
So on what was the CBS channel DirecTV in their message saying it was taken off recommended the Locast app to watch CBS and honestly for me anyway CBS getting shut off was a blessing in diguise because this Locast app has not only all the local channels in HD for free, but the sub channels like MeTV, Laff, Buzzr, and the like as well that DirecTV never had and I can easily cast it to my chromecast. Not only that, but through another app on my phone, I can trick locast into thinking i'm on the east coast so now I have access to both east and west coast local channels which is gonna be a HUGE help to me when WWE Smackdown moves to FOX in October so I can still watch it live and not on a west coast delay.
I signed up at the CBS website with the code JULYBINGE. It's good until the 26th.
Well I hope CBS or DirecTv resolves this soon, I live in the Mpls/St. Paul area and at my house (I checked antenna sites) it's near impossible to get an acceptable signal due to terrain issues at my particular location. I would drop DTV in a second if they ever release their death grip on Sunday Ticket
I wonder if this is true. CBS makes a lot of money off their local stations, particularly the newscasts, from the sale of advertising. This programming would not be available on All Access.
I hate cbs AA and espn+
These should be free for those that pay for TV service

That's not correct. I signed up for CBS All Access last week. There is a Live TV option which gives you your local CBS station.
Ordered last night, shipping tomorrow.
Does this work with hs17?
