It is sad that we, as customers, have to deal with this BS. Cable and Satellite companies clams that they are on our side but they still raise prices by a couple of $ every year. I believe if you loose 1 or more local station, do to a contract dispute, the FCC should fine both the tv provider and the station.

Do you not realize the reason WHY they raise prices every year is because they are forced to pay more and more for the channels they deliver to us every year? The reason for the disputes is them asking for more money, and the cable/satellite providers wanting to pay less of an increase. If there were never any channel blackouts your yearly price increases would be even larger.

Some people are like puppies. First you have to show them the stick before you can throw it.

Just checked the guide, it is now DC, I guess they are only turning it on for people on the West Coast paying extra for 390 (NY) and not vice versa, people in NY who pay extra for 391 (LA).

And yesterday afternoon, I hit the right arrow button on the remote and lo and behold: Locast. Works well enough for what it is but wouldn't want to depend on watching that picture long term.

If CBS says "take the channels off" DirecTV HAS to take them off.

Wrong. CBS can cut the feed to DirecTV

But I don’t think they have in this case. I think Directv is the side preventing the signal from coming through (see Smithsonian Channel)...

From the sounds of it CBS pulled everything off Directv that was in a local market or there national channel like Smithsonian and CBS Sports

Are these not stating the same side of the argument (CBS can stop DIRECTV from delivering their channels)?

There are minor technical nit picks to both statements:
    1) The contracts between CBS and DIRECTV allows DIRECTV to rebroadcast their channels for the duration of the contract. When the contract expires, the permission expires. It could be phrased as "take the channels off" but it is more of a "you may no longer retransmit our channels".
    2) Most of the channels "dropped" are CBS O&O OTA stations. They are received OTA by DIRECTV. There isn't a way for CBS to "cut the feed" without ending OTA broadcast. All CBS can do is state that DIRECTV no longer has permission to rebroadcast and sue them if the rebroadcasts do not end. There is no feed cut.

Is the new Directv Locast app available to everyone, or just the 13 markets that company provides locals for? On an HR-24 (& probably HR-34, I would think), like the Music Choice app, it’s listed despite not working. Unlike the Music Choice app, there’s no message telling you why & it works just up until the point where you go to actually select one of the stations. What do people think of it so far?

I do not have it available on any of my DVR's but I am not affected by any of the channels going dark other than the Smithsonian channel.

I’m in the Philly market. My CBS stations have been taken down, but there is no credit available to me. What are the criteria being used to determine who gets a credit? I do have access to the Locast app, but I don’t watch anything live except for sports, so this doesn’t help me. Also, you have no DVR functionality on Locast (pause, rewind, etc.). Useless to me.

Are you in a local market that lost its CBS a couple of days ago?

Nobody’s sure, but it might be partly tied to what programming package you are on (under recent activity in the bills & transactions section, after applying the credit, it reads “package name-1moDisputeCrdt”)...

PQ is not so good, and very slow to move through that menu - it works for us though. We're not using it because we have a good signal to our AM21.

I am a 20 year customer and currently have the Premier package with multiple sports subscriptions. You’d think I’d be entitled to the credit. I have no current credits on my account, which I know can sometimes make a difference. Strange. I don’t have the time or patience to call about this yet, but I will be doing so at some point.
