One interesting ( perhaps ) note on tonight's pickup of the SportsNet West coverage of Sather - Rangers - Oilers.

    It's not on 777 SD., only HD on 777 - 1.

My favorites are set up to show HD only for CI, so I haven't noticed this before.

    Does this happen often?

Yeah, the new HD Cinema placeholders allowed them to devote more part time HD cinema bandwidth, so now on busy nights instead of bonus Canadian feeds being SD only or not carried at all, they're HD only.

A question regarding MLB's Advanced Media ( MLBAM ) impending takeover in January of all digital media for the NHL...

This agreement was announced in August, and they've done a good job of keeping the progress of the handover very quiet.

From the NHL's initial press release:

"Commissioner Bettman and Commissioner Manfred on Tuesday announced a six-year digital media rights partnership between the NHL and Major League Baseball Advanced Media, the technical arm of Major League Baseball, that is expected to enhance the user experience across the League's digital platforms, including GameCenter Live, NHL Center Ice, NHL Network and"

    So, here's the question:

Since all distribution of out of market games will now be handled by MLBAM, will we see any significant improvement in the amount of Canadian feeds from SportsNet?
I know we rarely get the Montreal games on SN East, as well as Calgary and Edmonton feeds from SN Flames and SN Oilers.
If one entity is now distributing both CI and GCL, shouldn't this be easier?

This year, I ended up with both Center Ice and Game Center Live, so I hope there are improvements to GC Live as well. The interface, through a Roku 3, is really wonky.

My wish is for it to be like the MLB where we subscribe to EI and get MLB-TV included. Now I just get GC for the NHL, as I want to see games when I am on the road, but wopuld love to go back to Center Ice, if both were included.

You are right that the Roku app needs plenty of work and refining, it is bad compared to the one on Xbox.

Even just comparing the NHL app on Roku to the MLB one on Roku. The MLB one is a lot nicer and faster. Hopefully they will revamp the NHL app on Roku and get away from the side scrolling tiles... bleh.

Directv out of market stuff is manly remaps + added feeds. Maybe they can now get SPORTS NET ONE + it's subs feeds. Sports net one has jays games.

Last night's coverage of the Sabres vs Caps was amazing. Since I'm a Cap's fan I started to watch the CSN feed. It looked washed out. So I switched to the MSG feed and wow it looked like it was in 3D. It was crystal clear and the audio was incredible. You could hear the pucks hitting the sticks and the shots off the crossbars really had a loud ring to them.

Since the game was in BUF I'm assuming that CSN uses MSG's cameras. It's a shame what they did to that feed.

I wish there was an audio choice labeled FAN.( English,Spanish,FAN ) Instead of that continues non stop babble from a team of announcers we would just hear the sounds of the game.

I have watched thousands of different games in person of different sports without the help of any announcers and stilled enjoyed the games.

MSG is probably the best of the best for video and, as you noticed, audio. The 5.1 surround for hockey is just fabulous.

Here's the latest on the transfer of the NHL's digital rights to MLB Advanced Media.

Doubling the frame rate is a big deal, I would guess. Not a tech guy, so maybe someone can tell us what difference 60 frames over 30 actually will look like.

Looking forward to seeing the new web site, and hoping the user interface on Roku is improved.

Glad to hear the 60 frame per second rate will be included in as well.

I'd also guess the $2.99 per month package to view the last 5 minutes of every game will attract a lot of mobile users.

So I wonder what will happen with NHLCI and if we'll get it combined into one packge and price next season?

I hope, next year, it gets packaged with Center Ice, so I can go back to DirecTV for my hockey page, in stead of Game Center Live, I mean NHL-TV.

I know this isn't related to DirecTV, but is anyone else not able to stream live game audio from the new app? I tried on both the iPad app and Android this evening. The iPad app won't even act like it's playing anything, and the android app just has silence even though at least the play button seems like it's trying.

I hope this is a bug and they haven't removed the ability to stream game audio without a paid subscription. That would seriously suck.

It is a little buggy on the live video streaming tonight. Looks like they are working out the bugs as they go along. Looks like they are fine tuning it as it is getting better as the night progresses. I have to say the video from my ROKU 4 app, up converted to 4K and fed into my 4K TV is amazing. Far better than the HD telecast on the regular HD channels.

It's very frustrating. Being able to watch Canadian games is the main reason I purchased CI.

There is no doubt we are getting fewer and fewer Canadian feeds on CI.

I'm spending more and more time on ( GameCenterLive).
With the improvements from MLB Advanced Media, including a doubling of the frame rate, last night's Edmonton feed, for example, had one of the best pictures for hockey I've ever seen on my JVC Projector.
    ( I haven't seen TonyD here lately, but if he's listening, I'm sure he'll say something! )
On, it's just harder to change channels or advance precisely through a delayed match. A minor quibble.

It gets even worse this Saturday.
If I recall, we used to get Hockey Day in Canada in its entirety on NHL Network.
    This year? Nothing. NOTHING !

NHLN has a Rangers v Flyers game in the afternoon, and a Blackhawks v Stars game in the evening.

In the Guide, CI Channel 769 does not have a listing yet for Saturday. So there may be hope.

    I wouldn't count on it.

I wonder if this has something to do with the AT&T takeover?

BTW games from Edmonton seem to look the best out of all the arenas. Not sure if it has to do with lighting or the cameras they use.

Looks like both SN and TSN tonight for TOR-EDM. I've died and gone to heaven.
