Just got offered a free HD DVR. What are my chances of getting an HR24 (to replace one HR22) here in S Central PA?
If I understand correctly, the advantage of the HR24 is just speed, correct?

    Thanks
    Dave

Only way is to have D* installer show up - If they drop ship it to you - You won't know what model they will send.

    You sure it wasn't a Genie ?
No need or advantage to swap what you listed.

No, no Genie. I don't have a SWM.

Speed and voice control are really the only benefits. BBC's will still be required, etc.

I've found the HR24s to be generally faster and they are more compact than previous model HD-DVRs. Their DECAs are internal and they can also work with the RC65[R]X two-way programmable remotes.

But as for getting one through those free DVR upgrade offers from DIRECTV (in fact there's one available on my account now). Well ... while I can't speak for Central, PA., here in So. Cal. I've pretty much given up on getting an HR24 through that route.

They always send me an old refurb'ed HR21 or 22.

Internal DECA wouldn't apply here as a benefit except in terms of future plans.

There is a strict mathematical relationship that decrees the probability of receiving an HR24 is inversely proportional to how badly you want it.

Your brother in law Fred, who has a 1977 RCA ColorTrak XL100 that has been hit by lightning twice has a better chance of getting one than you.

DIRECTV doesn't seem to be giving out free HR24s to anyone these days. You can't even get one as a new customer from what I can gather. The sign-up application says that either the HD DVR or the TiVO HD DVR are $199. A Genie is free.

New subs with not decent credit who do not qualify for free Genie may qualify for a free HDDVR

Based on my personal experiences and reading many posts, the difference is the 22-100 is junk and the 24s aren't. Just my opinion, no need to post about how wonderful your 22-100s are. Mike Greer will just get upset.

My experience is that if you say you want a Genie and it's an addition, that you'll put in Whole Home, etc., increases the chances of better units.

If you really want a HR24 for free from DirecTV, call them and find out if you order one from Solid Signal if they will reimburse you the price. I bet if you are eligible for a free one they will do it. Might have to talk to retention but I bet they will do it. I didnt need any receivers so I asked if I could get a free Genie Go instead and they did. No contract ext either.

    Hey, same here earlier this month;

Retention gave me a GenieGo for free "supposedly" in exchange for the annual free HD-DVR upgrade offer that I didn't want.

Took the rep. a little doing to put through because the GG is considered owned equipment as opposed to the DVR which is only leased. But somehow got it through anyway.

And what's more the free HD-DVR offer is still showing up on my account. Thus my "supposedly" earlier. LOL

I ordered a free HD-DVR a few weeks ago from a "free upgrade to HD-DVR" offer on my account page. Cost $21.15 shipping/tax.

I received an HR24 refurb that looked good and works fine, it was drop shipped to me. On a sad note, it had a used remote that was kinda nasty - I can't believe they reuse remotes too. It went straight to the trash.

So it is possible to receive an HR24, but you could receive something much worse too.

For the last 6 months I have had to reset by unplugging and waiting 10min to get my old HR20-100 going. I plan to do this for as long as I can as I do not want a HR21 ever again. I hope as time goes by there will be less HR21s left.
