i wouldn't doubt it if ESPN were launching an all football channel. there was talk of this during the world cup, and the ratings for their saturday morning coverage of the barclays premier league are through the roof. they have bought rights to EPL games for the next 3 seasons, and IIRC they have rights to the UEFA Euro 2012 championship. plus, ESPN became available in the UK last season when Setanta went tits up.

    seems to make sense.

so you mean a soccer channel. It sure won't be called ESPN Football in the US unless it's American football they're showing.

If ESPN would just simply dump the "bottom line" on all their networks except ESPNEWS I'd watch their channels a lot more.

setanta is now FSP, and it is on the same channel as always . . .

btw, what does the previous fialed league have to do with anything? it would be like me saying that football is a failure because the XFL and USFL went under.

get real. like it or not, there is a huge market for soccer (in the USA). ESPN is smart and they will eventually acquire the necessary rights to make such a channel.

I wouldn't say there is presently a huge market for Soccer in the US. But there is a market and it's FAST growing. So I do agree that it is very smart of ESPN to begin getting their ducks in a row for a Soccer network in the near future... Soccer WILL become a major sport in the US faster than most of you are thinking.

I for one am not thrilled about ESPNEWS becoming what it has and possibly will. Looks like I'll be watching alot more of the League owned networks (NFL, MLB , NBA, NHL) from now on...

Its on all of em that way. Why in the world do they have the Score, then the Ticker, then the WASTED space underneath. Between their spotty picture quality, and this, ESPN can really suck. Here's an idea, delete the wasted gray and red space at the bottom, and LOWER everything.

    Morons...

You really think Americans will take to small men running up and down oversized fields with final scores of 1-0? Don’t think so. Give me “REAL” football with hard hits and oversized men knocking the snot out of each other. Oh yea, its football season.

There's something to be said about the attention span of a sport when D* can cut the game down to what, 30 minutes?

To be honest I'm surprised this didn't happen a long time ago, or even from the beginning. SportsCenter has been their news show for years, why it wasn't tied into ESPNews earlier is a mystery.

Tried by ESPN's Canadian cousin, TSN, where the government decides who should get a "catagory one" liscense (mandatory carriage on all systems).

Despite this Market distorting advantage, WTSN lasted 2 years and 29 days.

    A fundamentally dumb idea.

The Canadian government decides what channels are mandatory on all systems? That sounds like socialism to me (in my best Sarah Palin impression).

It's only starting as a ESPN blog, not a channel.

My wife loves sports. But would she watch a channel devoted to nothing but women's sports...probably not!
