Channel 1 "Customer Information Channel" will retire on 12/1/14 per channels 1-1, 201-1
Instructional videos are available on directv.com/videos or Channel 1001 (requires an HD DVR or Genie that is connected to the internet).

Additional information originally posted by fellow member peds48:

Receivers will continue to tune to Channel 201 upon activation as they do today. From December 1 through Sunday, December 7, Channels 1 and 201 will display a slide message informing customers of alternate resources. Starting on Monday, December 8, Channel 1 will air infomercials and Channel 201 will map to the DIRECTV CINEMA Screening Room content.

I do wonder if the old clearing NVRAM trick (mostly pre Genie DVRs) will be missed? I'm not exactly sure if it really does much anymore on the HR2x series receivers...

I guess on the positive side it will open up room for a new SD channel on the 101W satellite.

Not me. I've only ever gone to it by accident.

But I'm waiting for someone to say that their bill should be decreased due to the loss of a channel...

i often tuned to it by "accident" due to slow remote response on a hr21. I won't miss it at all.

I figured you could watch those info videos on their YouTube channel, if it's beneficial to adding a HD channel
    then I won't miss it.

Thank goodness. The only time I tuned there (which was a lot) was due to a slow reacting DVR and keybounce issues.

Won't make a bit of difference in adding an HD channel, it's coming from D8, an SD satellite.

It was useful back in the day. Especially for customers new to DirecTV.

So glad to hear it's going away. Like most others, I only end up on channel 1 when there is slow response to a remote command... I won't miss channel 1.

Thank you. There is a god. Channel 1 was really annoying when I tried to change channels while slinging.

I'll bet dollars to donuts (wait, donuts now cost near a dollar!.) that the channel will relaunch converted to perhaps an infomercial one. That's what is on channel 2, which I hit by accident. Coulda bought a juicer for four easy payments of fifty bucks.

Maybe Stewie from the Family Guy will miss it. Seems it was a great brainwashing method. (Season 7 Episode 4) :smoking:

I would expect the receiver to go to the closest channel number if there is a slow response.
If there is no channel 1 I expect the the lowest OTA channel to be displayed.
